This buck I call Frazier showed up late last summer after the neighboring property got cleared. He was a nice buck last year as what I believed to be a 3 year old. He had a very nice 5 year old running buddy I called Browser which I ended up taking on Oct 5th last year.
With Fraziers frame last year, I knew he had a chance to put on the inches this year but honestly didn’t expect this much. There’s another 4 year old and a 6 year old I was planning on hunting as well. The 6 year is old the smaller of the three but, all of them were on this hit list. First come first serve.
Frazier was very random throughout the summer but in the last two weeks, he really put together a routine. Only problem is he was showing up in the mornings and not evenings. I typically steer clear of morning hunts this time of year due to the amount of deer out when you go in and busting them out. However, this was the only way to hunt him so Sunday morning I took a chance and as you would have it, it was a blowing fest. One mature, not legal buck showed up and that was it.
So after discussing with several buddies with ideas, it was decided I would go in with my truck all the way to the blind and bust them out with the truck rather than me walking.
I pulled in this morning at 5 and sent deer flying every direction. But this is ok, they see my truck all the time. I park and get to the blind unscathed!
By daybreak I was covered up with doe and young bucks sparring, and eventually wandered off. Around 8:00 I decided it was time to get out of there and head into the office. About that time, I looked up and Frazier is at 60 yards making his way in. He faced me eating corn for 7 minutes at 20 yards until he finally turned and and offered me a shot. I settled the pin and as soon as my release was breaking, he turned toward me. Shot was back and I was worried. Gave it an hour and decided to go glass before giving him the day before getting on a trail. As I approached the area I last saw him, I stood on top of my truck and glasses the 3-4’ tall grass. And there he was, not 30 yards from me and not 20 yards from where his buddy Browser laid to rest last year.
Now, to Camp Co!
