THIS is accurate - if highest wage earner passes first the surviving spouse gets that SS payment -the OP's question though involves the teacher retirement (TSA) which changes everything

Look up the Windfall Elimination Provision. It's a BS law that penalizes people with pension income from a job where they didn't pay Social Security taxes and reduces or eliminates the amount of SS they can get. It should be repealed. Makes no sense at all.

Like I have said before, this along with a ton of taxes on things we own is nothing more than government theft. Screw them all, Demtards or Republicans.

            I'm assuming this is it.
Dads SS was $1,200ish (before taking out for medical etc.)

Mom gets her $900 plus Dads $250 per month TRS. So I bet they count TRS as income so she won't get more. Total crock of BS.

At least she should get the whopping $255 SS death benefit

If you have a good income after receiving Medicare you get to pay a penalty. For a couple it is roughly $12,000 a year. Which they will happily deduct from your Socialist Security payment. Yet they claim there is no means testing for SSI. They just steal it through Medicare.

The income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA) is an extra fee high-earners have to pay on top of their Medicare Part B and Part D rates. The fee is based on what you earned two years ago, and it changes every year.

Yeah the cost for 2024 Medicare IRMAA starts at $170 per person on lowest income up to close to $600 per person for high income. This is based off of 2023 income

TRS did add back the amount that was deducted because of SS.

                      The funeral home reports it.

Thanks for bringing IRMAA to everyone’s attention, once again they are penalizing those that try to better themselves. I am not on Medicare yet but I have been looking into this the last couple of years.
