I had the privilege of joining a great group of women with Texas Women’s Outdoors for a dove hunt just outside of Abilene this weekend. The dove were myriad in number, the weather was perfect, and the outfitter was on point.

I’m not one who typically enjoys group activities, but this was an accomplished and thoroughly enjoyable group of women that included: a wildlife biologist, a veterinarian, a captain in the Army who is a PA (physician’s assistant) pursuing her doctorate, a veterinarian, a specialist in medical software sales…and me.

Lots of interesting conversation: strange stories from the ER (where the PA is doing her current rotation) and a growing trend in veterinarian medicine…cosmetic surgery.

Happy yall had a great hunt!

We were at the farm not far from you and there were by far more birds than we have had all year

No, I didn’t limit out…but not for the lack of shooting as there were plenty of birds. I’m consistently below or behind. By the time I get dialed in, the hunt’s over or I can no longer lift my arms, whichever comes first.

Nice! I'm the same way with "groups", but the RIGHT people make all the difference.

Sounds like we shoot a shotgun about the same too😂

You and I must have been separated at birth.

My problem with a shotgun is that I consistently fail to follow through after I pull the trigger. My husband, on the other hand, is so good at shot placement and follow through that, when we’re hunting together, he can pick out a bird (one that is flying in my relative direction) and shoot it so that it falls on top of my head. HE gets hours of entertainment out of this and, as far as he’s concerned, every time’s as funny as the first time.

                            It is kinda funny, though.

Looks like you all had fun as a group. It’s a rare thing these days to be able to gather as a group for a first time hunting trip and be compatible.
