    Buff’s new addiction

The folks that remember me know for the last 50 years I have chased critters all over the world with Trad bows. I always loved the simplicity and beauty of a well made bow.

Age kinda caught up with me and I just can’t shoot a heavy enough recurve that I am happy hunting with. Bought a X-bow a couple of years ago but it didn’t give me the adrenaline kick I always lusted for with my recurves. I bought a compound and played with it a while but it still didn’t turn me on and well…. they are kinda ugly.

I have always loved Black Powder rifles and have killed a few critters over the years with them.

All that is to say right after this last season I decided to build a flintlock from a kit.

The first one took a while but when I was done, it was mighty pretty and Shazam….. The adrenaline kick was back. I read somewhere the rush is caused by the fear of missing. Whatever it is I got the jolt I had been looking for and over the last 6 months or so have built 5 more rifles.

I am setting in minneapolis right now wait on my flight to Alberta to try again for a moose with my .62 caliber flintlock.

Nothing will ever be as close to my heart as the Blackwidow bows but these flintlocks are pretty close.

I know between your hunting & fishing over the years you don't half-*** anything, so I'm looking forward to seeing you pile them up with the flint lock.

If you get a chance would love to learn some the details of the rifle. Brand, kit, time and tools needed to build. Thanks and good luck!!

Not a lot of tools really. A good set of chisels, some good files, a big stack of sand paper and a lot of free time.

No doubt the Kibler kits are by far the best bang for the buck

what kits did you go with. My Pops built 2 one he did all the wood work on and one was a TC Kit. I have always thought about doing one. That smoke is addicting
