    Water softener connection leak question.

I'm installing a water softener in a new house build. It is a Fleck 5600 system. I installed them in my previous house, but it has been a looong time. I'm having a problem with leaking connections.

The leak is at the by pass valve. It has a female connection and the Flex hose is also a female connection. I bought a couple 2" nipples(galvanized). I used pipe tape and where it is leaking is where the nipple and bypass valve meet.

I've read where it is better to use a pipe dope thread sealer. For the folks that have gone through this or the plumbers out there... what would recommend for that connection? The connections are 1"

    thanx,

My guys used pipe dope a couple weeks ago on my by-pass pipes.
    PM if you want photos.

I’m on community water. Water pressure dropped completely and all water left our hilltop house. The vacuum collapsed my “rosin” softener tank and cracked it.
NOW I have a vacuum relief valve. Expensive lesson.

If good pipe dope doesn’t work nothing will. I have used it after tape failed and it took care of issue. I think the imported fittings these days are not made to really tight tolerances

I'm gonna head to Lowes this morning and get some pipe dope. Big pig, sounds rough what happened to your resin tank. I had a water tote water system pipe break and it drained, but had no vent. The vacuum collapsed the metal framework around the tote. If lowes doesn't have good stuff, I think there is plumbing supply house in town.

On that kind of stuff, I usually do 2 wraps with tephlon tape , then hit with some pipe dope.
