I'm sure you can, but it will need a frame

I have not, but I don't see why it wouldnt work. We always just used goat wire bent in a circle. Then put a t post in the center and fill. Seems like chain link would work, but the holes are a lot smaller.

I used some net wire I had left over from fencing project.

But I am actually not sure why a cage is necessary Just put it in a pile and it will be eaten.

The stiffness of chain link worries me a little in case a buck gets his tines tied up in it.

But there are a lot of folks on here that know more than me

I built two cylinders out of 4” welded panels and the holes were too big for cotton seed and about the same as pouring it on the ground. We began breaking squares off of alfalfa bales and putting that in them and it makes two square bales last 2-3 weeks instead of just a few days like they did when we just sat them on the ground.

I think the baskets for both cottonseed and alfalfa extend the time it’s out in most cases. And cut down on waste. Just my opinion.

Where we hunt there is Never any waste! They eat every bit of it! The 4x4 mesh is too big as far as I am concerned- it just makes them get tongue cramps . It does last a little bit longer than dumping it on the ground . Dumping it inside of a small thick cedar bush works really well.

Chaining will collapse unless you put some hoops or something to keep it open.

The chain link will get tore up. The deer and other animals will waller holes in it. It's not that strong to maintain the squares.

Works like a champ. Drive 4 tee post in a square where an old cattle tub will cover the top.take chain link fence and wrap as tight as u can around the post being sure to expand the links. Fill it up. Put tub on top and be patient as it will take awhile for them to hit it

I read somewhere that cotton seed will make a buck sterile. Is that true?

only if that’s their primary food source. That won’t happen when fed as a supplement.

Chain link is too flimsy and too small openings to get their muzzle through. They will eat about 2" in and then they won't be able to reach the rest.
