Help identifying old Masonite siding manufacturer

My home was damaged from the hurricane and gable siding was damaged. This home was built in 77 and from what I understand the siding is some sort of Masonite which was has been discontinued for quite sometime. The thickness is oddball and nothing will match it width out a depth change and it looks like crudd . We had to patch a small damaged place last year due to rot - used t1-11 and though it closely matches the print, it looks like caca. My insurance adjuster came out a week after the hurricane and said that they don’t make it anymore ( which I knew) and that the whole gable end would have to be replaced. He measured , drew a pick of gable with measurements and sq ft to be replaced. We just got his estimate back and it was $1595 for 246 sq ft- ! I have an awesome contractor that I use that bid $5200 w/ hardie panel over plywood , caulked and painted.

my insurance is nit picking every single thing. They want to know the name of the existing siding , why and when it was discontinued , a new drawing with measurements and sq footage but that was in the quote of my contractor. I’m trying to maintain some composure .
so , does anyone know what this siding is , who the manufacturer was and when they discontinued it? All I have are these pics

    TIA

No help on old stuff. Replace it with SmartSide panels

    No plywood sheathing required

You can send the contractor’s estimate in and file for a supplement. $1600 won’t cover materials on 246 sq ft

Yes Sir! I’ve done that but they are wanting extreme specifics! I thought I would go with t1-11 but it’s only $25/ sheet more than hardie. That cost I can easily absorb . Thanks

thanks! I researched them but pretty vague as to which one! I guess I’ll have to cut a sizable piece out of it tomorrow to see if there is a manufacturers stamp on it .

Is the gable the the section of the home that has siding, or do you have other areas that would then be mismatched?

I guess what I’m getting at is if it’s just the gable, you and your contractor should decide what you want to be clad it in and send in the supplement request for that specific material.

if you have other parts of the house that would then be mismatched, I’d file a supp to replace ALL square footage of siding. They won’t like it, but that is how it needs to be handled when a material is no longer available. They had no problem raising and collecting the premium for $47 years….

It doesn't look like the Louisiana Pacific. So look at the back for the waffle look.

I second with going back with Smartside.

No Sir it won’t match but it will be close enough! This is the first time my insurance has been used in this property but I’m thinking they will probably cancel me out afterwards the way insurance along the coast is going.

Now were making headway ! I’ may be able to see it from the underside where it over laps the brick but if not I’ll cut a chunk out.

Tell them to do their job - it isn't your job to find the manufacturer....

They insured the house, so the underwriting is on them. They can either find the siding for the repair or they can pay your contractor

By the way, they owe you for ALL the siding, replacing just one side does not return your home to its pre-loss condition.

If you really want to play their game - tell them it one thing and let them prove you wrong.

Closest thing I can find is a Stimson (based solely on the striations in the grooves)
Tell them it's a Stimson Duratemp and that it was sold to Roseberg back in 2008 (https://stimsonlumber.com/company/history/)

I am in the same boat. It took me a month or more to find a product that closely matches the old pattern of the Masonite. Trying to use Google, they will send you to LP Smartside or Hardie board. It seems to me that the rollout of artificial intelligence works against me in finding all of the available products. It seems to make up it's mind as to what I want or am asking for and it will not go any broader than that. I suppose that I'm going to have to take a course in how to ask AI a question in order to get the broadest answer.

The closest product to the old Masonite that we have is produced by TruWood. It is comparably priced to the LP Smartside product. The cost of materials is pretty much in line with the adjuster's estimate. The labor is about double the estimate.

Correct! What difference at this point does it make? Either they can find the replacement material or pay for something similar that is currently being manufactured. What insurance company?

7/16" 4'x8' 12" O.C. Reverse Board & Batten, probably an old Temple or LP panel. I don't think it's commercially available anymore.
