    Prayers for my friends family.

I did not ride with my group Sat. morning and one of my friends was killed. Group of 10 cyclist riding in a bike lane and a lady said she just didn't see them. Our group leader wrote the following and I'll post a link from Fox 4.

A Benbrook man who was an avid cyclist was killed Saturday morning. He's being remembered as a dedicated, retired educator who enjoyed riding with friends.

"I never saw them" this is what you hear every time a cyclist, runner or pedestrian gets hit by a car.
The driver that killed Chuck was no different. There was no other traffic in her line at the time, no other distractions outside of her own brain. She turned directly into a group of 10 people on bicycles that was directly in her field of view. Can you explain to me why she didn't see them. This is negligence. When we are driving, running, cycling or doing anything on the roads, you have one job, only one job and it is purely to pay attention to the road in front of you. Pound for pound, any cyclist, runner or pedestrian who gets hit by a car will lose this fight every time 100%. Ultimately, everybody loses and gets to figure out how to live with the tragedy. Chuck's family and friends lives are changed forever. The driver, her daughter and the drivers family will have to learn how to live with this tragedy forever. They will have to live with the tragedy of killing another human being because she was not paying attention or her bad judgement thought she could beat them crossing the street. Literally senseless, the drivers need to cross that street was greater than her need to drive with care and responsibly.
Kiss and hug your loved ones often, be responsible and strive to be better

Slow down, pay attention to the road in front of you and regardless of what you are operating, use care in operating on our road ways.

Such an avoidable tragedy. I'm trying to visualize exactly where they were - Vickery and Old Benbrook road?

North of 20 where Winscott turns into Vickery by Mary's Creek.

It is very hard to understand how this happens. Big group of riders, low vehicle traffic at 7:00 on a Saturday morning and she turned right in to them - she had to be distracted by her phone or something. Prayers for his family and friends!

I live about three miles south of there and use Vickery a lot. Just recently I've witnessed some crazy drivers in the area. Two days ago I saw a young woman driver almost run two people off the road. As we entered a construction zone she ran over a couple of cones then almost hit a big trailer mounted sign with a huge flashing yellow arrow. She swerved around it at the last minute forcing the car next to her to change lanes then continued at a high rate of speed. Crazy.

              Sorry about your friend.

Distracted drivers are what keeps me off my street bike (motorcycle) most of the time.
I enjoy riding but wear my head on a swivel the whole time to where it takes most of the fun out of it.

When I'm in my truck observing my fellow cagers in traffic I'd bet 1 in 5 (at least) has a cell phone in their hand- it's out of control.
Yesterday I hade to ease out of my lane 2 separate times for the screen blinded who had drifted into my lane.

                Sorry for your group's loss.

                May he RIP.

Prayers up for healing and loss. Brings up a bad memory.

My dad hit and killed two cyclist on the service road off of I-30. My little sister was in the back seat with myself in the passenger, and my dad was driving. We were headed to my younger brothers baseball game and not being in a hurry decided to stay on the service road. We were driving West on the south side of the highway into the direct sunlight, crested a hill and my dad said "man I can't see" and as he slowed down everything went to hell. It was blinding, there was actually a news story on it where they took a camera to the exact location at the exact time to show how blinding it was. After an investigation it was ruled an accident and my dad was cleared but he, my sister, and I have never been the same. Still a haunting memory. One rider was an instructor who taught not to ride at certain time of the day and never into the sun for the reason of it impairing the vision of drivers. It was truly a sad accident and my dad will never say he wasn't at fault but I was there and know it wasn't his fault.

                    Terrible story.

We had a Lady life flighted out of our plant several years ago due to a golf cart at full tilt rear ending a parked forklift - golf cart driver was blinded driving into a rising sun with a pretty scratched up plastic windshield (actual issue on this road in the fall).

Sun blindness at sunrise & sunset is a hazard for sure.
Good reminder to be more cautious riding / driving during those times of day.

                          Prayers for the family.

My son is a cyclist and I don’t like it. I wish he would get off of the road and find another form of exercise.

May God bless those who lost their lives and those who had to witness it. I will say I do see from time to time a bike rider (or riders) on a very busy highway without any bright clothing or vest on - no way would I ride a bike on a busy highway -
