What is the name of this prairie grass….

…and how can I get it to propagate? We have two acres just west of Decatur. We have sodded around the house. About half, maybe a little more, of the property is native pasture. This grass has cropped up. I like it and would like more of it. What to do?

Is there a way to help it spread?

Someone smarter than I am may be able to tell you how to help your Little Bluestem propagate in the field. All I could find online were references to its inclusion in home landscapes.

It's a clump grass. I don't believe it will ever be solid cover if that's what you're looking for.

Not looking for solid cover at all, just more of it...

Let it go to seed and when seeds are mature shred it.

It should seed itself. Maybe send in a soil sample to A&M and see what the soil needs to help the seeds take hold and grow. You can also buy seeds and plant or divide the existing roots and replant. There's stuff online to guide you through all of this.
