Cost to fly w a bow?

Is it always an oversized bag charge to fly w your bow case? All airlines seem to calculate the case size by length + width + height and if greater than 62 inches total it cost an additional $100 or more. I’m in Colorado and need me and my bow back in Texas.

I fly with my SBXT and DXT as regular baggage with United. No upcharge.

When did you last do this? It seems the policy might have changed this year.

Last year. I’d just call the airline, wait an eternity for a human in the Philippines, and ask them.

Make sure to check the length of your bow case if you do check it. Once a baggage item goes over a certain length (or maybe if all the dimensions add up to a certain number) it becomes overzsized despite the weight and there's and uptick for that.

Or maybe try FedEx or UPS?

Last year here also. Just like golf equipment, ski equipment, etc. No upcharge or any guff at airports all over the world. They dont even open mine as I have ARCHERY EQUIPMENT written on tape on both sides of the case.

I’ve flown a dz times (most recent last summer) with my SKB double bow case and have never been charged for an oversized bag. I think they count it as sports equipment or something. Anyway, no extra charges.

Have flown many times with SKB double bow case- never been charged. I simply counted as 1 piece of luggage.
Make sure you have labels on bow case "Sporting Equipment" - not "Weapon" or "Firearm."

Exactly the same for my double skb , none issue for at least 30 flights or more.

Flew on the 1st from Atlanta to Johannesburg with my bow in a Terra Glide case and it was checked as regular luggage. It does NOT look like a bow or gun case but it ain’t short!
