    Corn dust allergies, skin reaction?

Does anyone here have, or have had, noticeable skin reactions after feeding corn, especially if the corn is dusty?

I’m specifically curious about hive and eczema-like symptoms (i.e. hives, swelling on the face and around the eyes, itching).

Not corn but ragweed makes me break out in hives if that yellow pollen gets on my skin. If I walk through it I sneeze until I taste blood. I know it's that pollen getting in my nose and throat. I'd imagine corn could do the exact same thing if you're bad allergic to it. My eyes itch so bad this time of year it's unreal.

If the corn is dusty, it may be the weevils which their fecal matter and leftovers may be causing your skin reaction

Be careful. That sounds like a semi mild anaphylactic reaction. In my case it’s peanuts and my throat swells shut. It can change over time and get better or worse. If you handle corn a lot you should get tested. Might be worth checking into an epi pen.

I’m not sure whats going on but I’ve been dealing with something the last two summers where I get terrible heat rash, then something else is causing rashes and swelling around my eyes. I filled up my feeder yesterday while wearing a full face mask, but obviously the one opening is right around the eyes.

Anyway, this is absolutely miserable, so I’m trying to figure out what it may be.

Get a allergy test. I finally had enough a few years ago with my sleep/tiredness and was shocked to find out I had a severe dust allergy. Made some dramatic changes and proactive steps and I feel like a different person. Primary kept saying it was exercise, depression, etc. Pushing scripts and otherwise useless advice. This went on for 20 years and multiple Dr.

Everyone should get a allergy test every 10 years (and sleep, blood work, body scan, etc....) You gotta be your own advocate. Most of the time your primary cant/won't spend the time to really dig down into your health. You gotta do it.

Yea i get similar from our bulk feed bin. When it augers out its so dusty if its been in there long enough to really dry out. It gets miserable for me. I usually just try to stay up wind of it.

I dont get a rash really but it will make me want to claw my eyes out.

Its a mixed commodity ration of corn pellets cotton seed hulls etc.

Keep Benadryl tabs in your truck/car. I have a reaction when stung by a scorpion but the Benadryl takes care of it quickly.
