    Gene Watson

My bride and I went to see him and the Farewell Party Band last night in Tyler. He is one of our favorite country music performers and this is the second time for us to saee him perform. If you like true country music, by people that are mostly dead, then go see him when he gets near you. Born in Palestine, TX, as was I, he is 81 and still sings like he was 35. I do too ! We saw him a few years ago at The Stagecoach in Ft Worth. He sang really well, but rushed through his songs.

He was under rated in his day, but I believe he is one of the best country singers of all time. His songs were the sound track for my youth and were always playing on a radio or jukebox in the background

That’s awesome Don. Love me some “ Paper Rosie” and all the rest. And as already mentioned, one of the most underrated Country singers of my time.

Love me some Gene Watson! “Them Texas fields was hot, and hard to find a job and so I didn’t…”

Ol Gary Gene looks pretty good for 81.

I saw him at the Country Music Palace in Vaiden Mississippi about 30 years ago. Would like to see him again.

Yes he does ! I fell in love with his music the very first time I heard “Love in the Hot Afternoon”, and he has been one of my favorite singers since then. Like George Jones, he has so many good songs it’s hard to pick a favorite. As I get older (and older) I tend to pick apart the words and phrasing, the meaning behind a song, as opposed to just listening to the music. Good song writers are key, and I liked the way he told who wrote a particular song on many of the ones he sang.

He must be, to be in a business where talent comes and goes, most of his band has been with him for lots of years. His bass player 28 years, his keyboard player 19 years, the drummer 18 years I think, and I can’t remember the lead guitar and steel players. He must be pretty easy to get along with.

I played pool with him a few times in some ice houses around Baytown many years ago. He is a **** good pool player also and a super nice guy. And, yes. He has great music.

I've worked security at a couple of his concerts. He sounds just as good in person as he does on the radio. One of my all time favorites!!

I'm mainly a 70's rock and roll fan, but man, I love me some Gene Watson. Been listening to him for years. Truly a great artist.
