    Homemade Venison Dog Food

Had this idea of grinding a deer into burger, adding some fat, to feed my dogs. I’m sure I need to add some fiber and maybe other vitamins etc? Does anyone have any experience or recipes for this?? How much per pound of dog etc. interwebs has lots of advice but not sure what’s what.

We have been making our dogs food for a couple months. Not venison but there has been a squirrel or 2. Basically white rice, ground turkey, and frozen peas/carrots. We make a huge pot and separate in gallon zippers or Tupperware

awesome. Do you cook the turkey or raw? How much you figure per serving? Twice a day?

I failed to mention chicken thighs or breasts. Whatever is on the clearance or sale table. She basically boils the meat till cooked then cooks the rice in the broth, adds veggies and once it cools throws it all back together to mix. We're just feeding two JRTs so not that much per day. Maybe a cup in the morning and three cups in the evening per hound. They stay very active and we're always complimented at the vet on how lean they are. The 6yr old stays leaner than the 2 year old. And catches more squirrels

That’s a great idea and good use of meat when thinning out your herd. I just googled recipes and there are a ton of ideas on the webz. Rice and sweet potatoes as a filler as well as adding vitamins. Then freeze drying? Let us know who you end up doing?👍🏽

We buy chicken on sale and cook it down in the instapot. Then shred the meat from the bone and use a food processor to chop and mix in veggies, rice and a little pumpkin.

Good stuff. These ideas are all confirming what I was thinking. I told my wife we didn't need to cook the meat but she says we do (I think just to be nice). I reminded her that the dogs eat poop and lots of other disgusting things....

Do yall put any other vitamins or supplements in their food? or is the meat, rice and veggies sufficient? Nobody has mentioned any supplements so I am assuming no but wanted to confirm.

Good fillers... Sweet potato, broccoli, carrots, pumpkin, yogurt, pea, green beans, cucumbers, bone broth, fish, the frozen veggie mixes. Really better to blend the veggies in a food processor if possible.

NO SEASONINGS, There are things like garlic and onion that are poison to dogs.

I did it for a while with the freezer clean out, but it got to be a pretty big chore. I have a healer cross and a border collie, they ate a quart bag 1.5" thick and flat. each per day. They have free choice kibble 24/7 but a quart bag per was about all they where eating at the time.

My sister uses rabbits. They are ground with organs and bones. Everything except the hair. There’s a lady close to her that processes them and sells them vac sealed and ready to go. Her dogs have done great on a raw food diet

As mentioned. Pure hormone meat, Brown rice, green beans, canned pumpkins, organic Peanut butter. I also put about 1 pound of fresh organic dog food. I use the organic dog food to give the vitamins. I don’t have.

I was feeding my dog raw meat for a while and the vet said don’t do it! He said meat is fine, but cook it first.

I did this when my we were trying to figure out what my dog was allergic to. I bought some minerals from a horse supply store and added it. I used a recipe from my vet.
