    PSA Check your equipment

Lots of folks starting to pull their bows out and start shooting so thought I would post this

Narrowly avoided a disaster this evening

Shot my bow and after a few shots there was a noticeably louder shot.
I immediately stopped and thoroughly checked the bow for cracked limb, cam, string and then loose accessories

I knew something was not right with the last shot so not finding anything I checked the arrow

Luckily the bow didn't blow up or make the string jump off. Or worse

Oddly, the arrow was not off much from the dot I was shooting at

Check your equipment thoroughly, nocks, arrows, strings, D loops, release straps etc

yeah I wasn't expecting to be able to hunt this season so haven't been shooting like I normally would have during the summer. I shot my bow the other day for the first time in a while and shot an arrow into the top of a tree when drawing back. I thought maybe I had hit the button on my thumb release but was pretty sure I didn't. Felt like it just misfired. This afternoon I was paper tuning inside my shop and had another misfire with my thumb release while drawing back and was 100% sure my thumb was nowhere near the button this time. It's just malfunctioning. Luckily the arrow caught the edge of my target bc if not it may have gone directly into the light switch. So I had to order a new thumb release tonight.

Checking limbs for cracks - for anyone that doesn’t know how, just get a few cotton swabs and fan the cotton out a little bit then lightly brush the limbs. If there is the tiniest of a splinter this will find it.

I don't think Robin Hoods are cool after the first one. Not that I can intentionally do it but don't want any accidents either

Just curious: How far apart were your dots? That sure look like a direct hit that ricocheted close to the intended target? Just curious....

you're right about robin hoods not being too cool after the first one....

I remember once I had the stitching come loose on my release, where the caliber attaches to the wrist band. In the middle of coming to full draw while practicing the arrow went flying somewhere and the caliber flung forward into my bow hand. Hurt like he'll, but nothing broken.

Factory bag target with 5 circle targets on the face, 14" center to center on the corners?

Very loud at shot so it came apart as I released. Have a mix of colors on the practice arrows so I know exactly which arrow it was that I had shot. Was not first time I had shot that arrow that session either

                        Glad it wasn't worse.
Brian, I had that happen to me some time ago. Sounded and felt like a dry fire. Lucky no damage.

Just one more reason I don't practice!

Back when I was shooting 3D I shot black nocks, but for hunting I ran orange or lighted nocks. Seems like I was always swapping out knocks after each season.

I'm guilty of the grab and go hunting style. Thankfully I haven't had any issues and glad you/equip are good. Minus that one arrow.
