    African guide gift ideas?

I have a trip planned to Africa in September and reading all these threads that mentioned gifts for the guides/trackers got me thinking. What are some good ideas for these gifts? What have others given that was well received?

    Thanks in advance

Cool new knife from Outdoor Edge (Fred Eichler). It is a multi purpose knife that truly is a must see with a classy leather sheath that is designed to be wore sideways. Check it out I got to see it firsthand from David Bloch the owner of Outdoor Edge yesterday in Ft. Worth. I great gift that could sit in a case or on your side!

That knife that you won in the big hog contest. There is only one like it in the world.
Had it made a few years back to look cool yet be functional. Which reminds me I need to meet up with you so I can get this stuff out of my truck.

A lot of the guys I know are big fans of anything western/cowboy memorabilia, especially the older ones. As stated before, cash is king in every country.

Cash, Cigarettes, one trip one of them wanted my range finder. The PH didnt want us to tip his trackers too much because they would start expecting it. The best thing is what you feel, youll know when you get there. Good Luck and have a great hunt. Paul

Ditto on tipping the trackers/helpers directly. Everything goes through the PH for a reason.

When I was hunting in South Africa one of the trackers saw I had a knife sharpener and asked he could borrow it while we were sitting in a hide over a waterhole. When I lent it to him he opened his backpack and dumped out a pile of knives that hunters had given him as tips/gifts.

The trackers like American cigarettes. The ones they normally smoke are some kind of nasty tobacco wrapped in old newpapers.

Cash is really appreciated. The head tracker where I was hunting made the equivalent of $130 dollars a month.

If you wear medium/large clothes consider giving them some of your clothes. Manufactured goods like clothes are expensive there. Most of the people are thin compared to Americans so if you're size XXL forget the clothing idea.

cash was always a given, just was wondering what else would be a nice gesture, something they would like (not my bow ) that I could give on top of cash.
