    MKC Knives

I have seen a few of you on here that love these knives, some older threads. Just wondering of those who have had them for a few years, how are they holding up, how long do they hold an edge, etc? I see where you cand send them back for them to sharpen any time and as many times as you want. I have purchased one or 4, but mainly for gifts, but might keep one for me. Thanks in advance.

FYI, I am a big believer in Havalon, I clean a lot of deer (30-50) each year and it's so easy to just replace blade once it gets a little dull. But I do love a true knife.

In for answers. I look at them a lot. They look really nice but the price seems double what it should be. Basic steel, the limited supply to create demand rubs me the wrong way as well.

I probably own 10 but bet that I have bought 30, they are my very favorite gift to give as a tip along with cash for guided hunts. I rarely use any of them in the field but use the culinary set weekly, great blades from a great company.

Keep reviews coming please. I listened to him on the meateater podcast, he seems like he knows what he's talking about. I have heard of people cleaning, caping and deboning 2 elk without sharpening.

Straight out of the box, probably the sharpest knife I have seen out of the box.

I can’t bring myself to spend that much on a knife that I don’t see any difference on other very high quality knives for less $$. And yea like someone else said hard to be the replaceable blade knives. Love my swing blade and havalon.

You might have bought one as a gift you say?? 😉

If I could afford one, I’d probably get one. But for simplicity when cleaning critters, it’s hard to beat a Havalon.

You guys comparing a havalon type knife to a high-end, American Made knife are comparing apples and bowling balls. One knife, your son’s, son will be talking about how his Grandpa used that knife to skin his first deer. The other, is a plastic Chinese tool that can’t hold an edge and will go through $100 in blades in its lifetime that end up in a landfill or thrown on the ground. I do have a replacement blade knife as well and there is a place for it, but it doesn’t beat a good steel.

This is the exact reason I have never tried one. I follow them on IG and every time they do a drop for a new knife I log onto their site and everyone of their knives is sold out every single time!! If you are that busy hire more help
Just my 2 cents Ill stick with my Chops knives and Havalons

As someone who’s owned a lot of custom knives from a lot of knife makers I’m just not sure what the attraction to them is. I’ve got a Magnacut Speedgoat that I bought because of the hype. It’s not a bad knife, but it’s not worth the price tag these days. I wouldn’t even give what I gave for mine a few years back again. The only real attribute it has is that it’s so light. Edge retention isn’t great, but not bad either. I expected a razor out of the box after hearing all the reviews. It was far from it. I can’t think of any other custom knife I’ve had that I felt needed work before use, but my Speedgoat did. It takes an edge well enough, but heat treat seems to be its main issue. Magnacut should hold a better edge. I don’t hate the knife, and I’m not upset I purchased it. I just expected a lot more for the hype they receive. If it was $150 blade I’d probably grab a few to keep stashed around.

                          ^Yup.

Guess this falls into the category of "Something i'd spend on others but never myself." I've bought several as gifts but it's the occasion that warrants the expense... not the knife.

I have a couple of Stonewall Skinners, one each in Magnacut and 52100 Steel. They'll both get very sharp and hold an edge well. The Stonewall is a very well thought out design that handles its intended purpose splendidly.

That said, I have yet to find a knife that holds an edge better than a Diamond Blade knife.
