Cowboy Wok or Big Cast Iron Frying Pan

    Good Morning,
I got the elevated burner on a stand (15 in diameter from Academy,)+ propane.

I'm new to this type of cooking and usually use a BBQ Pit or small propane stove on hunts.

What's a good solid Cowboy Wok or will a Big Cast Iron skillet be better .. Either got to be a slight bit bigger than 15" ..

Personally I like and use both. I think it depends more on your intentions for it which I prefer.

My Dad just gave me 2 cowboy woks made from disc with handles. I have only used it want to cook some pork pastor. My plans for the burner and disc are for use on hunting trips at camp to Colorado, and Texas hunts.

I have larger cast irons to use as well by will likely only be taking the wok. It’s quick, easy to clean and can cook a lot of items with ease.

The biggest advantages to the disc is being able to pull food that is ready, off to the side and keep it warm without continuing to cook it. The ability to cook just outside the center so that you can cook outside the grease and/or moisture, when you want. And the ability to cook a whole **** ton of food at once...ie Bohemian Cabbage.

I agree with Dale you can put alot of food out on the sides and not in the way. That being said i think you need both really.

I only have a cast iron, and I love it. I would not be opposed to trying a good wok, I can see the advantages posted above being nice.

That wok is THE BEST tortilla cooker on the planet, especially if you’re doing bacon n eggs or fajitas. You can dip them in the juices in the center of the wok, then drag them out to the edge/sides to cook. Mmm Mmm gooood‼️👍

Picked - up a Cowboy Wok/ Discada from Academy yesterday. Gonna do the initial cleaning and seasoning this weekend kinda like a cast iron frying pan.

Dang, those are nice. I just ordered me a Madrid style. Plan on using it on my BGE.

Go buy a 22 or 24 inch plow disk with no shaft hole- Don’t fill hole it will come undone at worst possible time. Use angle grinder and clean off the paint. Treat as you would raw cast iron. If you want handles horseshoes are cheap and easy.

Built them for a few years.

They used to be a thread dedicated to discs, and all the many ideas to build them. I’ll be danged if I can remember where it’s at, or what it was called. I built 15 or 20 over the years, using everything from railroad spikes to horse bits, to elk antler, for handles.
