Any of yall install one in your home yourself? Going to buy a Jotul next month and am looking for someone in my area to do the install. The salesman keeps telling me there's nothing to it, do it yourself but I get really nervous just thinking about cutting a hole in my roof! That and I know the pipe is really expensive and don't want to eff it up. If I do end up doing it anyone got any tips, tricks or lessons learned? Appreciate any help.

Don't know where you are located, but we purchased a Jotul a few years back from the patio and fireplace store in Conroe. They did the complete install and I'd highly recommend them. I sat in my family room and watched the whole process... Ain't no way I'd do it myself, and I'm pretty handy at fixin' and building stuff. To give you an idea of how backwards the install is, I'd have placed the stove where I wanted it to go and them made the piping fit... The guys that did this install, never even took the stove off the truck until they had the chimney pipe installed!! They started with a tape measure, a piece of masking tape stuck to the floor and a plumb bob...
Good luck with it. You'll really enjoy it! We love ours!

That's the reason he's a salesman. Ours was installed at the time of the build. Insurance company declined homeowners insurance until a deflector was put in and a writing from the installer saying it met some standard. During "the big freeze", ours glowed for 3 days as we were without power. Enjoy yours...........

If you haven’t already purchased your Jotul, I bet these folks would come to Fairfield to do your install if you bought the stove from them. They went to Columbus and installed one for a friend of mine.

We put in the F 500 v3 Oslo. It is the catalytic version and we love it. Can put up to a 24" log in that sucker. Has a side loading door that I use most of the time... If you use the proper technique to open/add wood, it will not let any smoke or smell out into the house even with the door wide open!! No damper in the chimney, just an open flue from the stove to the outlet of the chimney. Damper is in the stove below the fire and gives excellent burn rate control. I fill ours before we go to bed and close the damper all the way down and still have fire/coals in the morning so all I have to do is put in more wood in the morning and we're good all day...
Pro tip: The biggest thing to remember is make absolutely sure you only use DRY wood! As long as you do that, you will never have a problem with your stove... Ours has been used for 3 seasons now and even the glass front door is still crystal clear. I check my wood with a moisture meter and only use it when the moisture content is below 15%... Stove manufacturers recommend no more than 20%... This will prevent tar build up in the stove and chimney... makes for a nice clean burn with minimal ash.
