    Bird Plucker Advice

    Looking at getting a commercial type bird plucker. Almost looks like a washing machine tub with rubber fingers that knock off the feathers. I would use it for ducks, geese, and pheasant. Has anyone used something like this? Any recommendations?

        We raise meat chickens and quail. We use ours all the time. Lifesaver! Yardbird is the brand we have.

        If you don't mind a little mess and you don't do too many birds you can do a drill bit plucker. Look on Amazon or ebay

          I got one for chickens. I can do 40-50 good size birds in about 60-90 seconds each. Well worth the money.

            Weve been running a Whizbang 10yrs. I reckon it could go from light ag to commercial by swapping the wood frame and tensioner arm with 2 3/8” steel tubing and/or aluminum.

            For big cocks I cut the feet off at the drumstick otherwise they get stuck between the side wall and bottom plate of the Whizbang.

                  It definitely helps loosen the feathers. We run a pot at about 155'ish (I can't remember, that's one of my wife's "stations"). She dunks them a few times until she can pull a feather easily and then puts them in the plucker. Maybe can skip this step with a more commercial type plucker? Not sure.

                    It definitely makes a better product because the birds spend less time getting banged around and less chance damaging the meat or breaking a bone. Just be sure to go lower on the temp and absolutely don’t go over and begin to “cook” the bird. Having said that, unless you’re going to be doing more than 2-3 birds at a time, you can use a simple ice chest with hot water, chunk the birds in and toss one at a time around for ~30 seconds and then pull it out and start plucking. I’ve done this with wild turkeys at the lease and it works well.

                      I’ve got a featherman plucker. Works amazing on chickens. Toss three or four in at a time. It works ok on turkeys, but they were giant birds.

                        Well, the one I use works great, wasn't cheap. It works on doves, ducks, pheasants. It evens works on deer, elk and fish too. It's called "My Son".
