    My 1st Axis

I finally had an opportunity to kill my 1st axis and it happens to be a buck. Taken on a ranch outside of Freer. I'm sure it doesn't look like much compared to the many giants that I've seen posted but man was it a fun hunt. These guys are very elusive and smart and very difficult to see in that South Texas country. It sure was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. The other thing I learned is why I don't really hunt outside of deer season. Hot, humid and mosquitoes. I won't whine too much about that because I will be a resident of New Mexico beginning next month and all of these things will be in my past. I could only wish an opportunity for everyone to experience this one day.

They are similar to an Elk , once spooked they leave the county and fast ! I truly believe they have intuition. Very nice deer

Killed my first last year. I couldn’t believe how much they taste like beef. That’s a pretty nice one too! Bet you’ll enjoy it. Congrats
