    Brush/grass in feed pen

What do yall do with the grass/brush in the feed pens? With all this rain in South Texas, the deer aren’t hitting the feeders or cottonseed hard and the grass is thigh high in the pens.

Leave it. deer will trample down when the time comes. I will chop out a mesquite if it is in a shooting lane?

Weedeat it. Especially for better trail cam pics. The vegetation will "soak up" the IR on night time pics. And you'll also get a lot of blank pics of grass blowing in the wind.

Weedeat. Sometimes use a pole hedge trimmer if it's bad enough. Years like this year I'll have to do it multiple times, but I hate getting 1400 pictures of grass blowing. If nothing else, just clear up the area in front of the cameras.

Have a gate on mine so I can drive in it to mow, weedeat, and fill feeders.

1/2 24D 1/2 roundup, but deer usually keep it tromped down

              p.s
I scared of snakes hunting rats over being concerned about having grass

Mine pens are pretty large so I have oak, mesquite and cedar trees in/around it, plus some cactus, grass and my blinds. I walk into my pen to get to my blinds so, when the grass gets too tall, I weedeat it or mow it in July/early August. I do this then so that it won't grow back very high out west for the season. I do it for me to avoid rattlesnakes at night when I'm walking into my blinds and draggin' my body scent on any more cover than I need too. If I had a smaller pen, I would do it for the deer and me wanting to see them better.

Here's a couple of older pics.

ID:	26848753 My pens are just 40’ so I mow them with my tractor. I leave one panel as a designated gate and fasten it with a couple of carabiner type snaps. The T post in the middle of my gate has no “spade” on it so I can usually hit it side to side with a big hammer and pull it up. After I get through mowing I hammer it back into the original hole. I carry the hammer on my tractor.

I spray my pens to keep them clean. Usually spray in April/May and they are good for the year.

Battery powered hedge trimmer beats the crap out of a weedeater if you can bend over.

Open your pen gate and let the hogs in.
