    Recreating a SHO Horn

Anyone ever had a scimitar horned oryx horn recreated? How did it come out? What does something like that run? I'm half thinking a euro with the broken horn would be just as cool.

What exactly are you asking to do? Mold and make replicas of a current set? Need an extra horn to fix one broken side? etc. There is a replica set sold by Jetz taxidermy. There aren't many "extra" SHO horns lying around. It's much easier getting gemsbok horns. I tried to steam and bend a gemsbok horn once with no luck, but I've seen guys bending sheep horns to make bows so in theory, there could be a way.

I'm making an assumption you have one good side and one broken side and want to make a mold of the good side to replace the broken one. If that is correct, the horn bases have different shapes of the left and right but it's doable with some modification if you aren't too picky. Also, your good horn would have to be straight back and not curved outward or inward too much. .

This thread is useless without pics of said SHO!!!!

I’ve heard it can be done though. Is it completely broken off at the base, or broken in the middle somewhere. I would think it would be an easier repair if broken in the middle.

I haven't yet committed to shooting said SHO. Trying to talk myself out of it. Good price and would be nice to fill the freezer. I'm not sure where the other side is broken off. I guess I should ask for pics.

I'd probably just get the sucker on the ground and see. If it's horribly broken just do a skull mount. If it's an easy fix, even for a few hundred dollars to make it look whole and it's a good mount, shoulder mount it. AND it just depends if you ever plan on shooting another one, if you do, do the euro, if you don't get it fixed.

It of course can be done, is just a matter of what needs to be done, mold and cast, or fix with wire and epoxy, or just epoxy. Any way it will be way cheaper then a branch antler animal reproduction or rebuild.

a half broken horn is a lot easier to fix than a whole missing side
