    Car Emissions waiver ???

Has anyone successfully applied and received an emissions waiver for a car that wouldn't pass? I've already replaced most all the parts that are said to cause a code that keep turning on the check engine light. I've read that after so much money is spent to repair, a waiver can be for that year can be applied for. Has anyone here done that before?

I have a cheap little car that I just need to run for 1 more year. I don't want to spend $2K fixing a $500 car.

I would drive it until I got caught. That is what I did with my Honda Civic that had an emissions code, just didnt get caught. I had to change the manifold and put aftermarket catalytic converter on the car. The computer did not recognize whatever it needed to recognize on the part, so it threw the code. Could have gotten it fixed by having the car tuned, but didn't want to spend $600 on a $1500 car.

Good thing is that in 2025, unless you are in an emissions county, it won't matter.

I'd drive it all day long but this is for my daughters first car so Momma wants it legal.

Where do they check emissions? I've never been checked and never had a check engine l8ght fail my inspection.

If you live in a county that is adjacent to a major city then they check emissions.

I see you're listed in San Antonio. In 2026, in Bexar county, it will start. I've been dealing with it for what seems like forever in Williamson County. Since I have a 4 day a week place in Burleson County I've been thinking about doing a change of address.

What address do they go.by? The place of inspection or owners address. My address is in Corpus but I get my inspection in SA. I never knew anything about this stuff.

With my old Jeep I would unhook the battery right before taking it in for inspection. It would clear the code long enough to get a pass.

Just drive that *****!....how much is a ticket and how often will you get pulled over? Heck, just peel the sticker off another vehicle and slap it on. Roll on...they ain't gonna shoot you for it.

Just keep a box of Krispy Kremes in it, you'll be fine

just drive 2 counties over to a small town and let them do it.

That's not supposed to work. I had a bad gas cap on a patrol car and did the same thing. They made me come back after 100 miles

That’s because it takes up to 100 miles for the computer to reset the emissions system. If it doesn’t come back as “Ready” when they plug it in, they can’t actually test the vehicle.

Slayer, sent you a text. I may have a workaround as long as the CEL doesn’t come back in instantly after the system has been reset.
