    In the ER for Observation

Let the dogs out tonight and sat down in a rocking chair on the back porch. All of a sudden felt a sharp pain on the back of my right ankle around my Achilles tendon area. Jerked my leg thinking what the heck. Jumped up and noticed a 15” copperhead crawling away. I went and got a shovel & killed that bastage. It hurts like heck and slight swelling. Wife said we need to go to local ER. Under observation but appears mostly a dry bite. I was just gonna spit some tobacco juice on it lol
check that off the ole bucket list but I don’t recommend it

    Mostly dry?

Is that like being just a little pregnant? 😎

Hopefully a quick and complete healing and only a great war story for later.

This is from the wrong bucket list….

Reason Hunting Cabin why I’m afraid of the dark. Hate that you’re having to chill in the ER but at least medical is close by if you needed.

      Fingers crossed that you won’t.

Probably don't feel like it but if you're gonna get bit by a venomous snake that's the best one that could have done it. They'll probably give you Benadryl and tell you to keep an eye on it.

Foot is probably gonna swell up. Last time I got bit it took a while for my foot to start swelling. It's gonna look and probably feel worse tomorrow. But that's purely a guess.

If you can you probably shouldn't wear boots back home. If they're on for very long you'll have trouble taking at least one of them off when you get home. I'd bet money that foot ain't done swelling.

Well Dr wants to send me to the main ER and start low anti venom. Dr contacted their main ICU Dr and due to some swelling suggests not a dry bite. Looks like I’ll be hanging out. It did get tighter in my leg muscle and hard to flex my ankle despite no increased swelling. It does hurt pretty bad

I've never been bitten by a copperhead but if it's anything like a rattlesnake you can expect there to be muscle cramps. In the calf muscle and the back of your thigh.

Are they giving you anything for the pain?

Nothing for pain. Anti-venom made me sick at my stomach. They are still giving first round of it. Swelling has not progressed nor increased redness. It’s now 4 hr 20 minute since that little bastage got me. Tenderness & tightness has set in around & above Achilles. Difficult to flex my foot

Oh, God love you, that sounds miserable. If the nausea/vomiting continues, ask them to give you something for that.

I’m still in icu now post 8 & 1/2 hours from bite. Finished anti venom & they are monitoring blood platelets from blood tests it seems about every 2-4 hours. Hoping to get the heck out of here soon

I hate that for you. Good luck with the whole thing. Seems like you had you share of bad luck for the past 24 hours.
