So I found a GPS tracker on a vehicle I recently bought

Late last month my wife and I bought a 2015 Fiat 500 from Echo Park Automotive. It had a clean Car Fax, low miles, 2 previous owners, and we couldn’t beat the price. So we went ahead and pulled the trigger. Well, I was out working on the car earlier today, installing the power wire for a dash camera, when I came across a small box that was clearly not factory. After digging it out, it became apparent that it is a GPS tracker!

I don’t see any reason why Echo Park Automotive would install this, so my guess is the previous owner probably bought it from a tote the note lot who installed it. So, tomorrow I’m going to call one that is listed on the Car Fax report to see if it is their GPS tracker.

Spireon is LoJack. At one time it had a LoJack installed. I've bought vehicles that had a free subscription to Spireon/LoJack for a specified length of time.

I figured LoJack would be considerably harder to remove. This was VERY easy to disable it once I found how it works. LoJack’s standing for me just plummeted.

I saw a video on that the other day on youtube. A lot of dealers put those on the car and then try to charge you for them. If you don't pay, they just leave them on it.

Yep dealer tried to charge me $400 for a GPS wired to the battery and call it an anti theft device. It's the modern day equivalent of vin etching on a window. Just a scam fee that the finance manager tries to tack on the sale and hope it slips by.

Previous owner might have installed it for some reason. Chunk it in the trash and don't worry about it.

Pretty common for dealers to put them on these days. You aren't the first to find this. Just remove it and don't worry about it.

If you financed the car, check your paperwork to make sure there is no requirements to keep it on there.
