    covert wc30 and solar

Seeing if anyone else ran into this. Covert is no help as they don't make 12v solar panels for the wc30s and won't help with using other panels on theirs.. I have 3. One is using a cheap 12v solar from Amazon. They other 2 identical cams power off when I plug in the same solar panel. Thought panels might be bad, so got 2 winsome panels and they also power cam off. The one wc30 been running about 6months now without issue. Any ideas?

This doesn't really answer your question but I've run the covert solar panels on two of my cameras now for about 7 years. They have worked flawlessly for me. I know they're expensive but they work, and you could get technical support if you spent the money on them. Good luck.

We just went thru this with the Feradyne Covert clowns. No they dont make a solar panel ans are useless to try and help make your own set up so far. In regards to your issue it most likely a firmware issue. I think their firmware is done by Chinese flunk outs. Worst I have ever see. We got a firmware for a WC30-A and it shows on the software its a Black Ops.

What brand and model 12 V battery and panel are you using on the one that wotks ? And what is the plug size needed? Also do you still need to keep AA's in the camera ? Thanks

Covert makes panels that only work with some of rheir cameras. None for any of the WC line. And rhey are useless when asking for help and any specifications. For that alone will never buy another product from any of Feradyne.

Covert panels do not work with the WC-20 or WC-30 series unfortunately. Weird that they did this but I guess that might have helped them cut costs. The WC-30s are now $59 on Amazon. Hard to pass at that price. I bought a couple to put out before turkey season in some areas our turkey frequent a lot of time including a buddy's feedpen in the area. I also have one to watch a fox family in our back yard. They are temporary sets, except the one here at the house for the foxes, so I didn't mind the lack of solar panel. The good news is I got three months on a set of regular alkalines with them on that buddy's feeder and more, of course, in the areas I don't get as many pics. I love them for any place I don't spend 3 months away from. Our feeder activity is pretty heavy and it is dry so that 3 months was legit. Feb 24 though May 30th were the dates.

I got 3 of the 12v 4w solars by dosilkc on amazon. All 3 worked on 1 camera but would power off cam when plugged into other 2. I just thought they were bad solar until winghome did same. Yes, have rechargeable Batts in as well. I can't recall plug size, but it's the right size per covert. And of course, as they've said for the Las couple years, they will have solars available really soon haa

What are you plugging it into? The covert solar set or the camera. The covert solar set up has bag and cable that connects the covert 6v rechargeable battery.

Are you just using rechargeable batteries in the camera.

You are correct how irritating they don’t specify these will not work with the existing covert solar sets already owned!

The camera. I tried both winghome 12v solars and another offbrand Amazon 12v 4w panel. Plugging the panel directly into the 12v input on the bottom of the wc30s. On all but one camera, it would immediately kill the camera power. Worked fine when you unplugged again.
So yes, i run rechargeable AAs and get a month or 2 easy out of them depending on activity. 2 of my cameras are at gates that arent used often and last many months unless it gets really windy and they take pics of nothing but swaying brush

                    Very strange.

We run multiple WC-30A and the Winghome 12V solar panels, and I have never had this issue. Have you tried to update the firmware on the cameras recently?

Also, and I am sure you already checked it, but make sure the 12V plug on the Winghome is being used, not the 6V. Besides that, I have no idea.

Do you mind sharing what model Winghome you got. Did one of the plugs/cables that come with it work ? What batteries are you using. Thanks

This is the title of it on Amazon - you dont have to even use batteries in the cameras because its an external battery pack, but the WC30A you have to use batteries because you have to shut the door to plug it in, which is annoying. We just use cheap duracells for backup incase it fails, or energizer maxes. Rechargeables are NOT required.

Yes the cables that come with it work. We use these because we can use 6v for the code blacks, and 12v for the WC30A

yeah...even called covert who of course cant authorize the use of any non covert solars, but she said all my coverts are up to date firmware and all the same firmware.
And yes, checked plugs and settings. Makes no sense to me either
