    Here you go, Gen.....plug'n'play!

A lot of trailer brake boxes have a rechargeable battery in them that charges off the truck. Yank the break-away loose with the trailer setting still and see if you hear the magnets click in the brakes.

You had said ''I'm not sure what I'm looking for'' they will show you. You don't have to buy.

Thanks Dale, I called Magnum trailers in Georgetown and the guy I talked to was really nice. He said he's used several brake controllers hauling his horses and one of them was crap, he said something about them not being good on gravel roads and throwing the horses around. He said he has a digital one (same one he uses) for $85 plus a $45 install. I might just take it up there next week and let them mess with it. I'm still a little worried about having to disconnect the blue wire on my truck so my trailer brakes wouldnt lock up. I'm wondering if my trailer wasnt wired right. someone "rewired" it but they really just made a big mess with wire nuts and electrical tape.

looks like it might not be a harness (plug) under the dash (per say) on your vehicle.

I looked at etrailer and found this how to. Similar to the other one posted above @pirate4x4dotcom

So you need to get in the junction box to plug the BC in. See pics in link.

edit: when you disconnected the blue wire,,,,where did you disconnect it from?
under the hood? or at the trailer connector?

I disconnected it at the plug.

I'll check out that link at lunch time...
Just checked out the link! I looked at that box but decided against prying the cover off I was hanging out the side of my truck and already almost gave one neighbor a heart attack. When I was lying on the ground under the trailer looking at the wiring my neighbor came running over thinking I was hurt. I'm glad I have concerned neighbors

Gene I would have them wire for the 7 pin RV style plug. Most newer trailers are going to that style, and you never know when you may have to pull a different trailer. You can buy a plug in adaptor for the 7 pin to convert to the smaller 6 pin. Dont think you can go the other way. I just converted all my trailers to the 7 pin so I wouldn't have 7 trailers with 3 different type plugs.

                  Shouldn't matter.

You can use any trailer plug you like. Just match the one on the trailer and use the pins you need. Your 6 pin will be fine.

The other pins are for, backups & 12v power for battery charging and the like. Most 7way don't use all of the pins. (i.e. backups & the 12v pin doesn't even have a wire on it)

                  editops didn't finish....
I keep this in my glovebox for when I need to troubleshoot lights.

                  Look at this 7pin-4-flat adapter:
only 4 pins are used in the 7pin plug

                  Same with this 6pin-4flat

                  Lot of adapters available;

My trailer is a 6 and the other one I haul is a 6. And I already had a bracket welded for the 6 way so I wouldnt have to put a hole in my bumper. No way I'm changing it now. That would be a lot of work and cut into my riding time
