    Bypass surgery

Had a heart attack at work back on May 18. And tomorrow I’ll get to go home. After my heart attack went through lots of test and found out I had 80-90 % blockage in 5 different arteries. Dr’s here at Houston Heathcare Heart Hospital are great. Dr Chanaugle operated on me last Monday and said I can be released tomorrow. Amazing what today’s Drs are capable of. God is good.

Do they open the chest for stents?

They go in thru the femur artery. I've had 2 stints. Both up thru the right groin area.

Stents are inserted through a vessel in your groin or your wrist. When the blockage is too significant for a stent, they crack your chest open and “bypass” the bad coronary arteries with a grafted in vein that is harvested from your lower leg Hence the name Coronary Artery Bypass Graft(CABG) or “cabbage” as it is commonly referred to as.

Well, he said bypass surgery so I just assumed, and we all know what that does. No, stents are not surgery, I’ve had two of them myself.
