    What dissolves super glue??

My wife was doing her nails & spilled some sort of goop that has hardened like super glue on her wedding rings...got it soaking in nail polish remover, but figured I ask since this place is so full of wisdom. Only other real solvent I have is pain thinner.

    Thanks!!

I think acetone which is in nail polish remover.

Soak it in Jim Beam and then suck on it like hard candy. It won’t dissolve the super glue, but you won’t care……..

I’ve used acetone, MEK, denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol.

With it being rings, I’d consult a jeweler you trust before putting acetone or MEK on it. I’d think rubbing alcohol would be the safest on a ring. But again, call a jeweler to see what they say.

Buy the red bottle ISO heet fuel treatment. It’s like 99.5% isopropyl. That and denatured anlcohol is what I used back in my remote control hobby days.

Thanks gang...polish remover is working, but slowly.

I use that heet stuff mixed with carnauba to lube cases for reloading.

                  STOP!!

Do not put her rings into any kind of solvent! Metals react to solvents; most frequently, it discolors them. You do not want this to happen to the gold in her rings.

My non-professional advice? Just leave them alone for a while. Everyone knows that, with a little time, Super Glue degrades, completely loses its integrity, and flakes right off. Try leaving her rings out in the heat and direct sunlight (only when you're home and can watch them, of course). I bet that'll do the trick.

I use it now with lanolin to lube cases too. Has a lot of different uses. Haha.

As stated above, I would consult with a jeweler or metallurgist before introducing those rings to any solvents, before irreparable is done to them (much worse than some super glue).

I also second the allow some time in heat and UV to allow to degrade and flake off method.

The Fingernail polish slowly turned it gooey & figured if that would mess up a Diamond, gold & platinum then I got swindled a long time ago, but yeah I gotta good buddy who is a jeweler & he'll hear the story. Should have texted him.

Anyway, still don't know how she managed to fuse them together but it was funny...my guy had repaired engagement ring not a week ago because it broke apart on the palm side. It's really worn down & gotten skinny.
