Ram 1500 shuts off while driving?

I have a 2012 Ram that’s just shut off twice now. 1st time was about 2 months ago, and it did it again today. Zero problems with this truck other than these 2 times. Both times just normal driving and all of a sudden the truck is off. Like you turn off the key other than the steering wheel is not locked. I pull over, put it park, turned the key and it started and ran like nothing happened. 1st time, hope it doesn’t happen again and blow it off, 2nd time, I need to find out why.

My sons 2011 did this while idling then one day wouldn’t start. I had added a fuel pump bypass relay a couple of moths ago and it went bad. Not sure if that helps.

Gotta be computer related. Wonder if there's a loose wire in the bundle.

Nothing added. Other than tires and a ranch hand the truck is 100% stock. I’m seeing several several suggestions on the line, hoping someone here has had the same problem and found their fix.

I had this happen in my 2004 Dodge diesel. It was some kind of relay.

I had it happen on a 2011, took them forever to find it, but it ended up being a sensor in the transmission. But that’s all I can remember.

Buy a new or rebuilt TIPM module and replace the original. They go bad and will give you all kinds of fits including exactly what you are experiencing.
I have firsthand experience with this junk. Very bad design and they go bad all the time.

What is posted above is exactly what I did to fix mine. I jumped the fuses together over 3 years ago and have been driving it that way with no problems since.

Don't think that's the problem. Never had a problem starting, cranks right up. When it dies I loose everything, no lights on dash, no power steering.....nothing. Other than the steering not locking up, its like I turned the off. I've found a couple with the same problem, but they said everything turned off except the radio. If it happens again I will have to look and see if the radio is still on. The search continues.

I have had to replace the ignition in several in our fleet. It would do that same thing. If it has the plastic rectangle ended key that goes in the ignition in the dash that may be your problem. If it has a metal key, I don't know. The dealer will have to program the key once you change it out if I remember correctly.

Wireless ignition module, that’s the one issue I had with my 2014 and when it went everything went out. The truck wouldn’t start back up, nothing. I couldn’t even get the fob out of the dash.

I’m not saying that’s the problem here but the ignition going out or quitting as in my case will affect every other aspect of the truck.

This seems to be one of the most common suggested solutions. I do have the key fob, not an actual key. I will probably start here. Thanks for responding, I found numerous people suggesting that was the problem but no one actual confirming that would fix the problem.

One of the likely reasons is because when it goes, it doesn’t throw a code. It just goes out. Some cases are more extreme than others. You mentioned you could restart your truck which likely means it’s just getting ready to go out. In my case, it was literally like someone just hit a kill switch. The truck wouldn’t do anything.

It’s not the easiest thing to diagnose but it does sound ignition related. I’d be willing to bet it’s that module because even though my instance was on the more extreme side, what you described about pretty much everything being dead sounds exactly like what happened to me and that isn’t fuel delivery related.

My Dodge 2500 has started dying on me while going down the road. I can still steer it, but that’s all. It happened two days in a row now
