👍. I’m sure the Junipers have some significant contribution to the aquifers not being able to recharge. There has to be some other contributing factors as well. If you go to Leakey and head East on 337, before you get to The Frio River, you pass “Leakey Springs” where The City of Leakey gets its water. This spring has remained relatively constant even during very dry years and it feeds the Frio just South of Frio Pecan Farm. How is it that this spring hasn’t gone completely dry and still provides substantial amounts of water above ground? The water out of this spring is COLD 🥶👍

Quit going years ago. If we ever went back it would just be to party onshore. If yall wanna get in that water save yourselves some money and just Schnit in your bath water and splash around in it! It's actually better....at least its your own schnit!

Just got home. It’s flowing but barely. Not even close to floatable. That being said our group had one of the best times we have had in 12 years of going. We stay at 7 bluffs and the deep side of the road is where we hung out. We rented kayaks for the kids and we all went a good ways up river and found an amazing little area to hang out away from the crowds that was clean, cold, had a good rope swing, tons of fish, and both deep water for those going on the swing and shallow for the younger kiddos.

Just got back today. Flow was not good. We stayed in the pool and played with the kids for 3 days but had a great time.

I’m not sure you’ve been to The Frio. Yes, there are stagnant sections that get a little nasty with algae and silt when there hasn’t been a significant flood, but to straight label it as toilet water like you described is ignorant. Concan “can” get a lot of debris from upstream users, but most areas are great to just pop a squat and sit in the cool water. We’re going this month and I’ll be sure to post some pics of the water 👍

But also (I'm no Frio expert) I'd assume it has just as much to do with the numbers of new homes and ranches along the Frio. The more roads, buildings, sheds = more fast runoff and less springs.
Lest we forget about all of the wells that have been drilled as Hill Country growth has skyrocketed.

I think man anything it's just a lack of rainfall for 7 or 8 years now in the Frio Bandera area

Criders? I might have to stop in from some turnovers and cinnamon rolls.

When Mrs. Crider (Bonnie) passed away in 2021, I’m fairly certain they discontinued the bakery. Hasn’t been open the last couple years. Disappointing, especially considering I’ve loved her turnovers and baked goods for as long as we’ve been going.

Just got back. We floated one of our normal routes and although we had to walk some and pull some tubes, it was very enjoyable and all the kids had a great time. There were still plenty of springs cooling off the sections we were at (North of Garner). Caught quite a few fish on the fly rod and ultralight spinning outfits. Headed over to Camp Wood yesterday and spent half the day there at Quince Springs. Still beats the heck out of being anywhere around Houston!

Grew up on that spring, Still bubbling out of the ground. Fishing was incredible in there many years ago.

Which route were you able to float? I usually put in at 7 bluffs but I'm not sure how well that is flowing right now. Headed there next week. Thanks

Sounds like a great time and we enjoyed the heck out of our time there as well. We went to our usual watering hole where the water was flowing clear & cold and had a great time kicked back in chairs drinking cold beer. I love hitting LaLa's in the morning and having a good breakfast and coffee. Of course I had to swing into Mama Chole's one evening per usual and get tanked up on good food. Found me a couple good arrowheads to complete the trip. lol Can't wait to get back out there.

I was at 7Bluff last weekend. I don’t think there is any way to float down from there. There was a good deep hole on the upstream side of the road, but that’s because the road acts like a dam. We still have fun just lounging in the water though.
