How to choose a new mattress?! Back trouble

Yes. Hunting website. I’m aware there are enough rats in the river that post stupid threads. So forgive me. But I need help from like minded folks.

We’ve had a very nice mattress for about 10 years. I’ve started having back issues and I think the mattress is worn out.

There are a million choices. Idk if I need firm or soft or somewhere in between. I don’t want to spend thousands. What’s the best way to figure all that out these days? And where’s the place to go in B/CS or Htown? Matty Mack? lol.

A good mattress isnt cheap. Why go cheap on something you spend half your life doing.....
That said, go lay on them.
My mattress is around 10 years old. It cost $6k, but, its still just as good as the day I bought it. Not a sag or uneven spot on it. Sealy Posturepedic.

Because we spent a fortune on this one. I figured it would last longer.

AND I’ve heard folks rant and rave about the purple mattress and such that are way cheaper. I’ll absolutely spend what’s needed to get the quality we want. Hence me asking how to decide without making a mistake and not liking it. There’s a million options.

Purple sucks Matt! They do sleep cooler but after 2 yrs or even 1.5 years they start to fail! They will hold their shape well enough to not be able to use the warranty! My advice after spending up to $13k on a mattress in which I’ll never do again is to try and find a decent coil spring mattress, use it for two years, toss it and get a new one! We did go with the sleep number but we caught all of the sales just right and we are getting the best sleep we have in a long time. I understand the back, neck, shoulder , leg pain ordeal and I have sympathy for those who are trying to get a good nights rest. It is hard to go by what others have experienced as Good because we are all shaped differently - some of us a leeeetle more round than others

Had a purple here. It was ok ,but like BN stated didn't last. The best thing you can do is go check out everything you can & when you find the one that feels the best go look for all the reviews you can find.

Solve my aching back problem by taking 3 tylenol before bedtime. This way I can get about 3 good hours of sleep before waking up hurting. I sleep on a $6k pillow top Beauty Rest. It has done nothing for my looks BTW. Getting old ain't for sissies.

First of all, have you seen a doctor yet for your back? It may not be the mattress at all.

We bought a purple and it was still $4k, that was expensive in my eyes. Two weeks later my wife bought a $200 topper from Sam’s club because it was too hard. We shopped a bunch. Good luck.

Also Matt- when that purple starts killing your body , you and about 6 other full grown men with good backs will have to get that sum buck outta your home

Yes. It’s nothing new. I go to the chiropractor often.

My experience anything Sealy or Serta will turn into a canyon in short order. I tried Tempurpedic and they just aren’t for me,

I have been VERY pleased with my Simmon’s BeautyRest Black. It is ~15 years old and holds the shape and support like day one. I went this route because I saw how long my parents lasted as well.

Tempurpedic all the way. Recommend reducing Viagra to half that will reduce lower back pain.

I buy a cheaper mattress every couple years knowing it’s expendable.
