    DIY Container Spray Insulation

Anyone ever spray foamed the inside of a connex box yourself? I have a 40’ HC that I’m wanting to build out for the deer lease, but most quotes I’ve received back so far range anywhere from $3-5k, which seems a bit on the expensive side.

Any advice on doing it myself? There are kits that can bought online for less than a thousand. Just curious if it’s be worth doing it myself for about 1/2 the cost or to get it done professionally.

I had ours done a few years ago. It was fast and I didn't have to get foam stuck allover everything possible. 20 foot container and it was around 1500 or so. Worth every penny in my opinion

      I'm guessing 2 things:
      1. That it takes more skill to do than you have before you start the job,
      2. That with a new container on site, you have plenty of other stuff you can do that you are skilled at.

If the price tag seems high, see if you can pay MORE and get more done; like maybe adding some lights, outlets, or a mini-split: Increase the value to a point that it's less of a bitter pill to swallow.

Everything else I can do myself or at least have someone who can help me. I’ve just never spray foamed anything and was more so trying to see how much actual skill was needed. I’d imagine it wouldn’t be much different than spray painting something

If you are still down in the Goldthwaite area, I had a guy from Evant do mine. Good price and great work.

Make sure you have all your studs, electrical, speaker wiring, and hoses all installed before spraying.

It is a hot nasty job doing it in the containers this time of year. Need full jumper suits, full head masks, goggles, and gloves

I think the 2 that did our lost 10+ pounds on job. 2" closed cell.

Send PM if in area and interested

^^^yeah I figured it’s gonna be a hot and nasty job.

I picked up a lease down in the Uvalde/Bracketville area, hence the reason I’m moving from a regular travel trailer to a connex. The ability to close the doors and lock it down will give me some sort of peace of mind.

everything I priced out for a whole 40’ HC container it was a wash to hire it out vs do it your self with foam it green or tiger foam, etc. I ended up just doing R19 bates on side and 23 on ceiling. My next one I might go with Rockwell for sound though.

Went 2" closed cell, R19 batt, and metal roof overhead. Great investment for summer and winter comfort in TX
Would do it all over again if needed as we spend lots of time at lease year round. Slightly larger ac unit for space. Tower space heater for winter. Great temp comfortable control with minimal units.

you not have a heat pump in your AC? Mine heats whole container pretty well, except bathroom. I put a 700w Envi heater in there.

I recommend spending $200 and putting a reflective roof paint on roof. made a huge difference

Spray foam and batt or just batt? Both would be ideal but curious if I skipped the spray insulation how well batt would work by itself

Spray foam is easy. it expands way more than you think so spray a very light coat and keep the gun moving. Make sure you have all required PPE and cover ALL of your body. Full face respirator with appropriate cartridge is a must.

I just did batts. My container is cooled and heated with window unit w/heat strip. I did put a envi wall heater in bathroom. It’s only 600 or 700 watts

I can see benefits from spraying the roof, because on a HC if you just do 8’ ceiling you have a lot of space there, but I don’t think it’s a huge benefit for the cost. I believe a heat reflective paint would be better money spent. If I was actually living in it, and had the budget to do both paint and foam, I think you would save enough electric cost to justify but not just using it during season

I’ll probably end up framing all the way to the top of the HC, I think it’d be cool to have shelving up there for storage and what not… benefit of having the high ceilings i
                          suppose

I’m the kind of guy that does everything myself, and I hate paying someone else to do what I’m capable of. I gladly hired out spray foam in my 40’ HC, and I’d do it again today if I needed another.

                              That’s the way I’m leaning

Saying that… closed cell or open cell?
