After losing dad 8 months ago I can see how that can happen for the good or the not so good. I ride his riding lawnmower at the ranch and we have our chats. But living back in southeast Louisiana is not in the cards. Mom is still there and quite happy from what we can tell and she does not miss a beat. But........as others have noted we have evolved........some good, some not so good. Home is where the heart is and this LIFE is not a dress rehearsal thus I recommend finding your happy median.

When I was younger, an old guy at work gave me some profound advice. I just didn't know how profound at the time. He said that life is for living, and it's for the living. You can't live your life according to the path laid out by others who are gone on before. They don't know what you are doing, they are gone. You have to live with the people you have in your life now, and with the decisions you make. Ultimately, your contentment is up to you. Don't worry about what your dad would have done, what mom wanted for you, none of that. Be a responsible human, and forge your own path. You just have to be mindful of the people that you have left in your life while you do so
