Speedgoat on the carpet you should try going to big commercial carpet companies. The have to keep atic stock of carpet for a year then get rid of it. You should be able to find it pretty cheap

Looking good so far... Don't paint the bottom of the floors... a top coat before you put the carpet down will help tho... If you're gonna be putting them on towers off the ground, be mindful of how you intend to stand them up and add extra braces/attachment points to them to facilitate that. With good paint, those suckers will last a loooong time. If those crates are made for export packing, they're treated with an insecticide to keep bugs (termites and such) out... I would not paint the inside for the first year or so depending on how old they are. That will give that impregnated insecticide time to off-gas... If you're sitting in them this Winter with the windows closed and get to feeling woozy/have headaches, open the windows to get some air flow...
