    TPWD Drawn Hunt Survey 2023-2024

    Got mine in email today.
On comments section i basically said with the massive population growth in Texas residents need to get preference over non residents.

Not sure how the system really works, but here is to hoping somebody at TPWD cares, and isn’t just looking at the revenue stream.

It’s tough getting drawn here, this of course is my humble opinion.

Oh crap i should have added put the trout limit back

This is what all of the Western states have gone to and all it's done is make hunting more expensive and less of an option for non residents. Public hunting sucks in Texas to begin with compared to most other states, if they wanted to fix it they would acquire more property.

They don’t care. I doubt it ever gets better. Nothing with TPWD has gotten better.

I agree with your thoughts there oso and eradicator, I also think TPW should try to expand their public hunting opportunities. Lease some ranches, buy some maybe and get more folks hunting on draw type hunts.
Western residents see the same thing you mentioned , increased populations and more folks wanting to hunt so we have spoken and luckily for us most states are taking care of their residents first.
Make your voices heard, you have huge numbers down there to speak up.

This tells me you don’t hunt in Colorado, Lavaca, or Fayette counties.

The difference is the public land most western states is owned by all the residents of the united states. I dont care if states charge or limit non residents on their state land but National land should be all in draw with the same odds.

Yep, wait till congress starts to close federal lands to hunting. It’s going to be funny listening to cries of help us!

Let me see if I can recall the arguments they always claim…

you can still recreate, so what’s the problem? If you don’t like it move there? Wildlife belongs to the state and its citizens blah blah blah. The latter is about to hit the fan here soon enough with the federal govt banning hunting on federal land in AK unless you live in a specific village, state resident or not, it will only spread to other states.

The repercussions from the short sighted selfishness will have a much bigger impact than what most of them will ever realize.

My only complaints with tpwd is the way they conduct their public hunts and the fact it seems like only certai people seem to ever draw. Too bad TX won’t open up all the permanent school fund property for hunting and other recreation to the public.

If you want draw odds to increase, going after non-res won’t help you.

Limiting the number of entries per category is the way to increase draw odds.

Make it ONE entry per category. Every year it seems like you hear about some guy who puts in for anything and everything and has to choose between 2 overlapping hunts. That's BS.

Agreed on the limit to the # of entries.

It’s all about the mighty green dollar. It’s working how TP&W designed it, endless entries means more money for the department. Screw the common man that puts in one entry they don’t really care about you. They want the person who enters 1000 times to increase their odds and TP&W pockets the cash. It’s a BS system.

Last year was our first year of putting in in about 6 years and it was crazy how many more entries there were. I think some of it is how easy it is now, back when you had to pick up a book, fill out entries and mail them there were less people willing to put in the effort, now that it's just a couple of clicks you are going to have more people which is good and bad. I agree it reduces the odds and a lot of people will only see more competition as hurting, but the more hunters we have in our ranks the more power we carry as a group, hunters are such a small part of the total population that it makes it harder for our opinions to be heard in government,
