    Lake Bridgeport?

Drive over Lake Bridgeport on the lake, and ive noticed something that seems weird. All the other lake around are full or close to full, but Lake Bridgeport has stayed very low for a while. What's the reason for this? Just not as much watershed or some kind of other issue?

Go check out Stillhouse. It looks like a river right now

      Two fold answer.
The watershed that feeds it (west fork of trinity river) has not had the rain events (frequency and intensities) that has filled the other trinity river reservoirs east of it.

2nd, Bridgeport is the beaten step child of the tarrant regional water district. it’s the highest lake in the district, so they empty it first. Always have, always will. Eagle mountain lake downstream stays full or as close to full as possible. With the huge population center we have become, takes a lot of water to feed that animal.

its about 15’ low currently. After drought years of 2011-2014 it was 24-25’ low.

Yak B nailed it. We used to own a lake house over there. That lake is like a yoyo. We had it about 15 yrs and just got tired on the drastic swing back in the drought eras and got rid of it shortly after the water came up. It was back in the mid 90's early 2000's and when the lake came up, we sold.

I heard a rumor back then that a state house member lived at Eagle Mountain and raised hell about the water levels at his house. Seems like they made a strong effort to keep that lake more consistent after that.

Can’t speak to the water level fluctuations, but I can tell you that it is illegal to jump from the bridge into the lake…

This is the truth, every word. It’s a shame too, because it’s a nice lake when it’s full.

Yak Blue has my stamp of approval. I will add Eagle Mountain releases into Lake Worth, which used to be the major supply for Ft. Worth. Benbrook is the other major supply for Ft. Worth. They occasionally buy water from Richland Chambers, through a pipeline put in Richardson Slew at Benbrook, a few years ago. But not as often as intended now. That is why Benbrook Lake gets drawn down so fast.

Ft Worth sucks up a lotta watta.

If you're looking to fish it, don't let the low water discourage you. It's been giving up some pretty good bass for us this year. You can still put in at the Wise County park ramp for now.

Wise county park ramp is usable but if she doesn’t get a flood to bring’er up upstream, my guess is she’ll be out of commission by the end of summer, or maybe even the 4th of July, if things dry up like they usually do come June. Hope I’m wrong.

When that happens, the ramp at the bridge will be a happening place every weekend. 🙄

We fish out of pedal drive kayaks so we've been using the sand beach where the old pavement is at out on the point. I do have them on a trailer and back them in like you would a boat and a lot of boats are actually launching there too. I wouldn't recommend it without 4wd tho. The lake is back up a tad. 13.83 low as of today and last week it was almost a foot lower. It was over 16 ft low at one point and still usable. I will agree though, if it gets much over 16 ft low the county will probably close it to launching altogether. We need rain....so they can start drawing more water from it!!
