    Subcompact tractor recommendation?

My wife and I are about to move into a house we’re finishing just west of Decatur. I’m looking for recommendations for a subcompact tractor to use on two acres. The property has some topography. So, once retired, I’ll have the opportunity to play with some small retaining walls to shape the land a bit. The machine will be mostly used for mowing. But, I definitely want a front end loader to help cart around weed eaters, do some gravel driveway maintenance, etc. Will want a belly mower, maybe a couple of other rear implements, not sure on those just yet. I’ve been looking at the Kubota BX1880, I think that’s the right model number. Anyway, you’ve got the idea. Suggestions? Thanks I’m advance.

Get on tractorbynet.com and do some reading. There are scads of fellows on that website that love the little tractors. The things are handy as a third arm, but just too small for my operation.

I've got a guy up the road that has the John Deere 2025 and seems to love it. I assume you will be mowing with a belly mower with the mid pto? If so, I've pulled one of these mower decks off and it's pretty easy if you choose to remove it for clearance reasons

I bought a John Deere 3038 it is a compact. I like it but don’t think it has the power of the Kubotas. I only got it because of the price. I think you get more tractor in the smaller size with Kubota just cost a little more than I found mine for

It's hard to use a tractor for a mower (if you have a lawn), and It's hard to use a mower for a tractor. If you have a real yard to mow, get you a good zero turn mower, then get you a small tractor to use to do the real work. A tractor will tear up your yard turning and just moving back and forth. A mower will be under powered to do driveway work, front end loader would be in the way when trying to mow... My recommendation is to look for two machines.

We've got a little sod around the house that we'll mow with our regular lawn mowing equipment. The little tractor will be for work 'in the pasture', It won't get on the grass. Don't have a big enough space for a regular tractor, nor space to store a bigger tractor.

I bought a Kubota BX-23 new in 2005. It has a front end loader, backhoe, and a 60” mid-mount belly mower. This little tractor has saved my back lots of times.

I have a 1025r and a zero turn. I keep the zero at home and use the deere at the lake. Like Charlie said, the zero turn will mow 2 acres faster and better than the deere and a belly mower. However, I won't be ridding myself of either once I move to the lake. But the belly mower may be a yard ornament

I've added a brush hog, grapple and now a land plane to the deere. Brush hog stays at the deer woods and is incredibly useful when added to a deere 990 and a 6 foot cutter we already had. Those little tractors are stupid handy on small acreage.

My vote is get a tractor without the belly mower and add a lawnmower of some sort. Spend the coin of a belly mower and get a grapple.

I have 120 hours on my little tractor and its just 2 years old. You'd be amazed at what 25hp will do with a grapple

Yes as Mr Charlie stated you can make grass mowing a quick done deal and with a zero turn.

Neighbor bought a LS tractor last year and has lots of problems with it. Axle seals leaking and starting problems, he waited two months for a part from the dealer in Seguin.

This is exactly what I need as I just purchased a new home with a 1.2 acre lot in the hill country.. and I need to do similar things.

You can't go wrong with a Kubota.

Go a size or 2 bigger than you think. you wont regret it. Loader and 4x4 are a must. You will use the loader for some many things you never thought of.

Bought a JD 2025r and it's a gamechanger... I've put over 200 hours on mine in the past 3 years. I also agree you should get a separate mower. The cost of a belly mower attachment and a standalone mower are a wash so having the standalone means when you're done with the tractor and want to sell it you will still have your mower. A zero turn or ride on mower will be faster, smaller, and way more nimble than your tractor.

The bucket is great to have. I also suggest the pallet forks, backhoe, post hole digger, and brush hog. I've used that little tractor to do EVERYTHING you can imagine from hauling my gun safe, mulch, logs, railroad ties, digging trenches, fence posts, grading, on and on.

Another "bonus" is once your new neighbors see you have it you're gonna find yourself with a lot of new friends.😂
