    New Colorado Ranch

After months of negotiations & planning things have finally come together. It is with some sadness I am closing the chapter on my S Tx ranch. I bought the ranch 20 yrs ago. It was raw land w no improvements of any kind. The biggest deer wouldn't even break 130". I worked w the natural genetics and over the years built the herd up where we were taking 160-180 type deer almost every year. The droughts, bailouts (fjb), & keeping all the feeders filled not to mention the cost of it all just got tiresome.
The next & probably final chapter of my life will be spent on my newly acquired property west of Trinidad Colorado. It will have good stretch of the Purgatorie river to fish and should have a steady supply of Elk, Mule deer and other critters to hunt. The ranch has never been sold & it goes back to the mid 1800s. Should be quite an adventure and am excited to see what the future holds.
I will try to post updates as things progress. Wish me luck.

Congrats, that sounds awesome. I know how hard it can be to leave a place you have put so much into. When we sold our place in Uvalde, I cried more than when some members of my family died when we went thru that gate for the last time. But our new place is better and we couldn't be happier. I'm sure you will experience the same.

Don't think I could do the winters??

Hopefully they left you some old gems lying around if it's stayed in the family so long.

Don’t plan on spending winters there. Lubbock will be home base.

I hope this is the last chapter only because it’s the best chapter. Congrats and enjoy.

There is something in Trinidad that we made a point to diverge from our route to see. As soon as I remember what it was—and if it was, in fact, interesting—I’ll
                      pass it along.

Best of luck to you, sir.
