Need Transmission shop recommendations around Austin and Round Rock areas

2017 Chevy HD 6.0 gas with the 6L90. Need a shop that will rebuild with better parts than original. This one only made it to 78k, not a very happy camper. And yes I do the required maintenance on my vehicles.

I'm not opposed to taking it out and driving some distance to get the right build.

8 speed? How much if any debris is in the pan?

Best of luck on your search. I’m sure there are still some out there but I ran into shops that want to pull and replace with new or remanufactured. Buddy of mine who owns a shop with the word transmission literally in his business name and he said it’s just as reasonable to replace now with new.

I know this isn’t much help, just wanted to prepare you in case you run into what I did.

6 speed. I haven't dropped the pan as i just changed the fluid and filter 8500 miles ago.. On the way home today (55 mi.) The transmission went from a normal 145-160° to 200+ degrees and by watching the tach I could tell it was slipping every now and then. I lost overdrive too. I've read enough to know it's probably toast. I read a while back that the TC is junk and I should of had it replaced

That's why I'll search around. Replacing with the same oem transmission is not in the cards. After reading a lot its usually the crappy TC that takes out the tyranny. There are better parts out there, I just need to find someone skilled in rebuilding with them.

I know it’s not close to you, but Kosub transmission in China grove seems to do quality work. China grove is just east of San Antonio on Highway 87. They rebuilt my friends Silverado 1500 transmission and did good work on it and was cheaper than a replacement.

Try Georgetown Interstate Transmission and Auto Repair. I used to live next to the owner and if I needed transmission repair I would trust him.

Thanks, I'll give them a call. I also remembered Riethmeyers Auto Repair on Mopac. I hope between the 2 I can get a build that I can live with.

They don’t have a builder. They just put units in

AAMCO on Burnet road. Probably the best builder in Austin. Rick and his son are great!

I did. Transmission repair now seems to mean Transmission replacement. Eagle transmission still rebuilds them but I wonder how good a job they do. Replacing with a remanufactured one is north of $7k, pretty ridiculous to pay that much to go back with the same transmission that didn't last in the first place.

Anyone on here use Eagle transmission?

I have used hi tech transmission on bandera in San Antonio. I was impressed with their honesty as it was my daughter’s truck and I don’t live there. And they did an excellent job quickly

We used them years ago but haven't in a long time. One of my guys used A plus transmission out of cedar park/Austin on his f250 and was extremely happy. I know it cost him some money but they upgraded alot of the stock parts because all the does is tow and its held up pretty good so far.

I would put a Jasper Unit in it, as others have said rebuild is just about the same cost as a reman these days. Jasper has updated their units to address the most common failure points in those
