    Duramax diesel question

Per my mechanic I have a seal in the turbo on my truck leaking a little oil into it causing some smoking and really bad smelling exhaust. Quote to fix it is in the $2000 ball park but mechanic advises if I rebuild the turbo it's just a matter of time before the injectors go due to change in airflow. If injectors go due to the model of my truck I'll be looking at the $7000 range to fix that Plus cost of turbo repair I'll be lOoking at $10000 in a truck that isn't worth much more than that. Does the injector story sound plausible to anyone else? I am loOking for a used truck to buy to drive while I repair other but am starting to think other truck isn't worth fixing! My truck is paid for and really not interested in taking on a new payment

I don't see why replacing the turbo or having it rebuilt would have any effect of making the injectors go out.

James, get a second and possibly a third opinion.. Most of the cost will be labor,so it might benefit you to change injectors at the same time as turbo repair, since they have it torn down.

I am not a mech. ,just speaking from past experience.

It's an 04 with 176000 on it. It's the earlier motor with the injectors under the valve cover

You can call Jessie at Auto Repair Unlimited in Brazoria. He can probably answer some questions for you. He is a good Diesel mech (owns the shop).

Ah the old lb7. Theres no law that says your injectors will go out. How did that come about in the conversation?

Sounds like hes trying to give it to you with out the vasoline man... if alls hes doing is replaceing a seal in your turbo then its not going to change air flow.. if you were to up grade to a diffrent turbo set up then maby but your stock injectors should hold up

The 02, 03, 04 were notorious about burning up injectors.....In fact, I am helping a buddy finish up his injector work this weekend on his '03 with 140K miles that we did not complete last weekend.. Here are a couple of posts I found for him and we have worked through these. Hopefully we get it complete this weekend. The best price I found him for 8 quality injectors was $1,800!!..

That's what I'm saying. I helped a buddy put a new turbo in his truck. 12 pack of beer, some tunes and we were done. Hardest part was unbolting the down pipe.

$1800 is way better than the $600 per injector the Chevy house is asking!
