How much rain?

I have built numerous ponds and lakes in my life, but mine is the only one that ever leaked to my knowledge, and I’m sure I would have heard about it they did. The last day I worked on mine I hit a seam of gravel and I thought I had fixed it but evidently not because it has been leaking for over 25 years. It has slowed down tremendously in the last few years, since we’ve had some rains that muddied it up quite a bit. I think the gravel vein silted in finally. It ran out the spillway on this last rain but it was only a little over a foot low.

I am soooooooo jealous! This thing has been leaking for 20 years per the previous landowner. My buddy has a skidsteer and and small excavator and he is determined to drain mine this summer and bring in clay and get it fixed. Now, with all that said................neither of us have a single idea how to do it beyond YOUTUBE and folks on TBH.............lol! I may need to call on your expertise as we fumble around on this thing.

Be glad to help if I can. Have you thought about bentonite pellets ? You can spread them in the area of the leak, they go to the bottom and hopefully migrate to the seep area. They then swell up and plug the leak. There are folks who do that, but I think they are fairly expensive. I was gonna try to use my tractor and seeder, sit on the dam and put them out, but I really don’t know where the leak is. That gravel seam ran all over the bottom of the pond. We put quite a bit of powdered bentonite in the pond once but it just clumped up on top and when it finally soaked up enough water to sink it was still in clumps so I doubt it did any good. I don’t want to hijack this thread any more than I already have, I’ll send you a pm.
