The first one was their original and it has a wire in the brim that allows you to shape it how you want to keep the sun off you, not only your ears, but the back of your neck also... The drawback to the original shape flexer was it was kind'a heavy because of that wire in the brim... Couple years later, they came out with a "Lite" version. I got one of those, even better! I bought a couple extras and gave one to my bride and she wears it when outside mowing or working in the garden... Miles ahead of a cowboy hat for function. It keeps the sun off your whole head/neck area and has side vents, even a zipper so you can zip the top crown off if you are lucky enough to have hair on top to keep your head from sunburning... Needless to say, I don't zip the top off mine!!

Edit to add: If you want to order the "Lite" version,
just click on the color you want and then click on the size drop down menu... The lite version is there. I just ordered me a backup... My current one has lots of miles and hours on it...
That was me and I still love mine as well. For the money it is hard to beat.

Well I ended up going to Boot Barn and looking at hats, dang they are proud of them, I must have tried 20 of them on, I did not look at prices until I found a couple that I liked, one was 54.00 and the other was 160.00, I struggled with the decision, would'nt you know it, I chose the expensive one, it just felt better on my head, it is a Rodeo King, I will be working in style, I think I am going to go get my wrangler jeans starched tomorrow !

Of all the straws I have owned Rodeo King has been by far the most durable.

Well at least I got one that will last me awhile, probably for many years ( hopefully ), I will only wear it while at the ranch working, which is far from full time.

I bought an Atwood hat at the feed store once. I wore it all the time when working outside. It's worn out now and I need to get another one as well. Lots of different kinds out there, but I'll remeber to get one with the vents instead of the holes.

At some point I should change out my old beat-up Resistol with one with more vents also. Maybe this year...

I wear a loose weave pith helmet, better known as a Jungle Jim hat when it gets really hot. Cowboy hats simply can't beat the airflow, even if they had a hundred vent holes in them. When the weather is just warm, I wear a cheap Resistol cowboy hat that I bought at Academy. I think that I have $12-$15 invested in that hat.

A good hat will stay together longer than a cheap hat, in my experience. Go ahead and get one you like, and don’t worry about sweating through it, and getting it dirty… That’s what she’s for. I like American hat, myself, available at NRS.

I found a Rodeo King that fit my head the best, it did not exactly fit my budget lol.

I'd rather be caught in that than some of the other Asian tourist hats posted

You buy a new truck every year, Rog...spend a littl $$ and go get a good hat to protect your noggin.

If it's not comfy, you won't wear it...and it becomes pointless. As long as it's not too small, it will adjust to your head a little when you sweat through it, but it WILL NOT stretch. Also the guy at the store can stretch it from round to more oval with some steam. I like a well vented crown, and 4 1/4" or 4 1/2" brim. I don't take great care of myself, but skin cancer is something I try to guard against pretty seriously on my head. I tan like a mexican indian asian from columbia, but I hate sunscreen, and I hate the idea of anyone cuttin parts off my head even more.

I had a dozen or so of those Sunbody palm leaf hats that Bobby posted. They are cheap, tough, and you can shape them with water. I only quit buying them because I wear my hat to swim in and float the river, and the crease falls out of them when they get too wet. They also get heavy when wet, and can be hot, but they are cheap enough to try one for a while to see if you like it.

I just prefer a straw nowadays.

It is well vented and a 4 1/2 " brim, it felt the best so I bought it, may have to wait an extra year on the new truck
