I need a good straw hat for working out at the ranch, tired of the top of my ears getting toasted, what is a good brand ? Anywhere to find them used, hate to take a really nice one and sow it all up at the ranch, where is a good place to buy a new one ?

Go to Cavender's and try them all on. Too many shapes and vent types out there. I've got a Resistol straw and palmetto straw for outside work. Both were $40-$60.

Last year, albeit hesitantly, I ordered a flat brim and open crown hat from Amazon and it is my favorite of all time. Took it to a lady in SA and she shaped it to my liking in 15 minutes

An alternative is Sunbody as mentioned above, . They have quality products. I have worn out a few palm leaf hats from them and they last. Best part is you can dunk them in a sink, tub trough, or hose to re shape them after they get mashed.

yeah it does, guess I will buy a new one and sow it all up lol. Never have worn a cowboy hat much but just tired of the sun beating down on me, besides that if I am working on the ranch I need to look the part lol

I would recommend getting one with vents in the crown, not just 3 little holes on each side. Straw hats can get pretty hot if not vented.
