It’ll never happen for me so I can talk all the bravado I want but yeah, I think it would be a cool experience.

I didn't want the job that bad.

As it turned out, when the Columbia shuttle disaster occurred, there was an astronaut who lost his life and went into the NASA training program around that time or a year afterward. I thank my color blindness for saving me from being recovered in pieces from trees in east Texas like those poor souls were found. God bless them.

One of my favorite things I have is a framed picture from Shuttle Mission 61C, the mission before the Challenger disaster. RCA Astro launched a communications satellite from the shuttle bay. Bob Cenker from RCA Astro flew as a mission specialist and his experiment was to substitute one of the color cameras in the bay (built by RCA) for an experimental infra-red imager. I was the marketing manager for IR technology in the RCA Advanced Technology Laboratories. I had a print made from the recorded video as the shuttle rolled belly-up and flew over the island of Oahu at sunrise in the 3-5 micron IR band. Light is hot, and dark is cold. Bob gave me one of the RCA Astro patches he was able to take for a shuttle ride.

I must be getting old- that's going on 40 years ago!
