Very few families remain untouched by addiction.
My mother died almost 4 years ago, just past her 83rd birthday
and a little short of her AA birthday. Had she lived another six
weeks, she would have received her 40th chip - one for each
year of sobriety.
At her funeral, no less than a dozen people came up and introduced
themselves to me. People I had not seen before and had never heard
their names. It seems that my Mom had sponsored all of them, helping
them to remain sober. One day at a time. Each day just as hard as the
day before.
I've no doubt that Josh would admire her, as she would admire him.
Vocations or depth of pockets wouldn't enter either of their minds.
You see, both would know that addiction is a disease that cannot
be cured. But it can be kept at bay, the demons warded off through
support. Support from God Almighty and from caring mortals.
Josh has my prayers - as do all victims of addiction.

Just an opinion, hopefully flamethrowers don't come out.
We can argue about the integrity of man, all day but the man's story is amazing, to rise from the ashes to land at the pinnacle of a sport you have dedicated your life to is awesome, to be willing to be held accountable by his team, MLB and the public is scrutiny few could handle well.
I know he was stricken with guilt ove the gentleman that fell to his death at the park, and maybe the pressure to be on your game, behave yourself and "tow the line" broke him.
He's human....We're all sinners. We can all rise from that, even Josh.
God Bless his road

My cousin died at 49 of acute alcohol poisioning. Of 5 alcoholics I worked with for 26years, 2 are dead, 1 has kicked the habit but is very ill, and 2 are still drinking, unemployed and without a family.
This ball player must make a choice. We might support him and others but at some point if he doesn't make the proper choice it will not be worth worrying about.
Some folks forget about Mickey Mantle.
