Broadleaf weed control in a pasture help...

Basically. I live on 3.5 acres and I am run over with thistle and other broadleaf weeds. I've got some RM43 to use for cleaning up the fence line, but I'd like to use a UTV sprayer tp spray the rest of the property. I think I can rent a 40 gallon boom sprayer form my local equipment place, but what would be the best herbicide to use and how much I don't want to kill anything else. I've got some good grass coverage but the thistles are thick and choking out some areas.

This will be a constant battle I'm sure. The pasture behind our place is thick with them and when they start budding out a blooming, it looks like cotton floating through the air.

Look up the label on Butyrac 200 and see if it controls thistle. I use it on my clover and it won’t kill grass or clover. It always killed the broadleaf weeds for me.

GrazonNext, follow directions on label for application rates.

2-4-D, one quart per acre and you need to be spraying before it blooms other wise you will not get a good kill.

Be careful with Grazon around oak trees and water.

I second 2-4-D... And as Radar said be careful spraying around oak trees (small immature ones especially)... Also spray it while it's still cool... If you apply it in June-August when it's 95 degrees out, it will burn your grass too. I spray a combination of 2-4-D and Barricade in early Spring, then again in late Fall... If you do this for 2 or 3 years running, you'll get ahead of the broadleaf weeds in your pasture and your yard... It does a fair job on tallow as well if you spray it while they are young...

I use 24D, but I'm also going to have a weed killer added to my pasture fertilizer this year at CO-OP

Do you know if this is effective on Bull Nettle?

24D amine 1 quart to the acre. May bump it up to 2 quarts if you're thistles are as thick as you say. It's labeled for lawns. Grazon Next isn't and can kill trees.

We used Grazon D+P last year and worked good. Not sure of the amount/ratio.
                    works on small mesquites too.

Unless it’s really, really bad I’d just spot spray it. I hate thistle and always carry a claw hammer to dig them up.

I spray GrazonNext HL all over my yard and around my trees. 12 ounces in a 60 gallon boom sprayer and I can do about 2 acres. Works great.

MSM-60. Not restricted, and will simply get you taken care of. Super cheap per acre, and under rated.

Follow up, make sure your main grass isn’t one that MSM-60 will kill. I spray it in Costal hay fields with amazing results.
24d is good, along with Gunslinger.
