    Tree Question

I have some Burr oak acorns in coffee cans, planted in potting soil. I've got them outside in the sun. How long are they dormant? I've had them in there for about six weeks and figured they would be starting right about now.

We had a lot of Burr Oak on our property in Huffman. It seems like the seedlings usually started the following year after the acorns dropped. Don't know for sure, but that's what it seemed like.

If you would have cut the outer shell off them, they would come up this spring and I imagine some will any way.

Do not freeze a Bur oak acorn. They are white oaks and do not need any cold stratification. Red oaks need to stratify, but I still would not freeze them. 60-90 days in the fridge in damp peat moss for red oaks.
