The Second half of the calcium scan

So I thought all was good until I was called and got the results from the Cat scan. Turns out they found calcium in my veins and arteries of the heart.
And if that’s not enough I am pre atherosclerotic and they found questionable areas on my aorta.
My father died from atherosclerosis at age 88 and survived triple A surgery at age eighty.
So there is an upside. Atherosclerosis is reversible according to the cardiologist. First stop is Nuclear stress test looking for restricted blood flow. Obviously they found no blocked arteries or veins or I may not be here now. Then the CET or CTE whatever to get a better look T my aorta. Only 20% of people survive a burst aneurysm on their aorta. That will be a major surgery.
So, get your scans done now. It cost me less than a basket of groceries. $205.00 for both test.
Folks I’m a 68 year old that was doing 3.5 a- 4 miles at a time on the tread mill at 3.5 miles an hour. On a good day 3.8. Last year I hit my high of 6 miles at 4 mph. All this with a time bomb in my chest.
Get your scan! Lord willing I’ll see yall at Bownanza this year. If things go south before then contact T my buddy Tony Pic on here.

Working on that now. When to new cardiologist yesterday and he wants me to get a coronary calcium score before next steps. Told my primary before he referred me to my new cardiologist that we would skip the calcium score due to was high enough 7 years ago that they did stress test after results. So much for trying to get the process done faster. So next week have that scheduled. But do like the new cardio doctor a lot more than the last. Good luck to ya.

I hope some things have changed. My wife has a real kick *** case of Rhymetoid Arthritis. She had the Calcium score done in 2010 at 46 and it showed 0%. Shortly thereafter she had a heart attack and went to the hospital and had a double bypass the next day. We talked about that test with her Cardiologist later and he couldn't explain it. He did say he had another patient at the same time that hat a really high score so he scheduled him for a cath and when he went in, he was clean.
My take is a cath is the only sure fire way to find out.

I think that’s what the nuclear stress test is supposed to show. I hope your wife is ok

Good luck Bruce. I go on the 28th of this month for a stress test. Since my knees are shot(close to replacement) they will do the chemical stress test. I have been eating better and walking some now with the wife. But since I retired. My physical activity has slowed down tremendously. Hardest thing now is filling feeders, loading critters into the truck and attaching equipment to the skid steer.. Yeah I gotta step it up a bit.

The wife is ok. One of her bypasses ( cifcumflex ) did not take or closed. Her Cardiologist sent her to have EECP, External Enhanced Counter Pulsation, and she's been through the program 3 times.

Bro I had the chemical stress test one time instead of the tread mill. One of my hoofs was hurt so I opted for that. Never again! It scared the living shat outta me. You think your heart is gonna explode. But if you can’t walk that’s your only option. These are your golden years bro. You gotta get back into stick ball shape!

Yes. This is not something you hear about everyday but it definitely works. I'm trying to get her to go for another round. It's a commitment, 5 days a week for 7 weeks for an hour a day.

So I had my follow up appt with the cardiologist yesterday. He diagnosed me with Coronary artery disease. It’s what killed my dad at age 88.
I told him I’d been taking D3/ K2 to “transfer calcium from arteries to bones. His response was”I’ve not seen any data that confirms those findings “. Ok. So I told him I take Omega 3 and CoQ10 to offset effects of statin. His response “fish oil can cause fibrillation in some heart patients.
So I have a nuclear stress test set for March 21st. It takes four hours! I told em I was getting stressed just thinking about it! Got a laugh outta em.
The day before I did over five miles on the treadmill at 3.6-3.7 mph for a little over 80 minutes I believe. He said it’s possible for folks to do that with a diseased heart/ateries. Said for me to keep exercising but stop if I had any pain! What the heck! So go till I have heart attack. Gotcha.
Bottom line is this is my fault ladies and gents. Decades of resisting a healthy diet and opting for fast food, deer sausage, you fill in the blank. The calcium score showed that I had more calcium in my arteries than nine other people my age. That’s bad.
Again. This test is cheaper than a basket of groceries. Mine was $205.00 How much do you spend on corn? Folks, get the test. You’ve got loved ones depending on you. Think about their life without you! Sure we’re all gonna die if Christ doesn’t return in our life. And, we’ve got an appointed time to die; however, you can sure make a mess of your life until that time comes. Peace y’all.

What a great testimonial. If someone with your physical endurance can succumb to heart/arterial disease, then anyone can.

I have an appointment with my doc later in March for a complete check up related to my heart.

                              Thanks for sharing.
