    How Long will Eggs Last?

I’m talking about fresh eggs. Eggs that have never been washed up and refrigerated. Straight from the hen house to an egg carton. How long before they go bad?

A couple weeks easy. If you have too many, you can glass them in jars and they will last over a year.

Just keep them in a cool dark place, unfertilized eggs will last a month or more... as long as you don't wash them or refrigerate them. Been doing that for years with my wife's hens... But we do not have a rooster. Fertilized eggs have a shorter shelf life.

        Glassing eggs for a year??

How long will a freshly farm gathered egg last refrigerated cleaned vs unwashed?? I've heard they last longer unwashed, but am honestly ignorant on eggs besides the eating of them. (which is a lot)

How long before you would give up eating eggs from HEB??

Put them in a glass of water. If they float, give them to the dogs!

Don’t know about the rooster part. Somebody gave my mom a dozen and she gave them to me and brought them home. Then I got sent to a sister plant for an outage which I was able to stay at my moms for almost 2 weeks and didn’t even think about bringing them for my breakfast.
Anyway, my wife asked me this morning if I thought they were still good and I didn’t have a clue.

You can always perform the float test?
              From googler
“Place your eggs in the water. If your eggs sink to the bottom and lie flat on their sides, they are very fresh. If your eggs stand on one end at the bottom, they are a few weeks old, but still fine to eat. If your eggs float to the surface, they are no longer fresh”

Put them in a bowl of water. If they float, or even stand up, throw them out. If they lay on their side, they're good. Gas builds up in them when they start going bad and cause them to want to float. This is called "floating eggs" and it's a tried and true method to tell if they're good or not. Do it all the time. Our eggs stay on the counter for a couple of weeks sometimes. My wife doesn't even bother floating them until after a couple of weeks. Throw very few out.

Bust them open and smell them, if they're rotten they'll smell. I've taken fresh eggs close to 2 months before and store bought refrigerated eggs a month post-expiration.

This is pretty failsafe too... but the real reason an egg either lies on its side or stands on end is if it has been kept in a carton, all the air inside the egg will have migrated to the top of the egg... If you leave an egg lying on its side on the cabinet and check it with the water method, it will still lie flat on the bottom... If you take an egg that is laid in the morning and put it in a crate standing on end, by tomorrow, if you do the float test, it will stand on end... The big deal is it MUST not float! If it floats, it's no bueno!!

I’ve heard you can put them in water and if they float, it is a no go. Maybe I heard it on here before………lol….

Lol, I'm beginning to think I've eat'n some floating eggs in my lifetime if 30 days is any sorta window for shelf life.

Same here…….. the expiration date on the box is only a recommendation to me.

This is just what she told me that someone at her work told her today. So far, the eggs she checked are good to go.
With that said, the guys I work with beg to differ. They swear I had ate rotten eggs by what they smelled this morning lol!!!

Well don't eat a dozen hard boiled eggs before work! LOL

Anyone say try the float test yet?
They last a long time IMO at least 4-6 weeks. But beware where they come from. Some people have too many chickens and they find eggs that may have been out a while. That's why I'd float test if someone gave us some.
